Re: US Coronavirus Stimulus Checks [Cheques]

I just received the letter (08.06) in the mail regarding the Economic Impact Payment, which was dated 1 May.

I did not input my bank information when filing my taxes, so I am assuming I will receive a check in the mail sometime. I see others posting that they have not yet received it after verifying on the IRS website that it was mailed out.

I will try and check the IRS website again tomorrow to see the status of my payment, but I am locked out today because I am not sure how to correctly put in my address. Even the address on the letter from the IRS is spelled incorrectly, so I think it will take some guesswork.

Can anyone else confirm thought that they received the initial letter around May and are still waiting for the actual check itself still today?

I have a similar situation-- I finally got the IRS.gov site to accept my information, and it now says a paper check was mailed on 01.May to what I suppose/hope is my Swiss address. Still no sign of it as of today... anyone receive theirs yet, or is it safe to assume it will be delayed over a month?
Mine said the same thing, that it was mailed 1 May. And I just got a letter from the IRS in the mail (to my Swiss address, as listed in my last tax return) today. Opened it to find it was only a letter from , but no check or debit card enclosed....strange. Maybe another one is on its way??

Re: US Coronavirus Stimulus Checks [Cheques]

Today I also received a letter signed by Donald Trump, dated May 1, stating that I should be receiving the check/debit card. No check or debit card yet, however.

Re: US Coronavirus Stimulus Checks [Cheques]

I guess they think people don't really need that money or something?

Out of curiosity, I just did a google search and found an article explaining some reasons why some people haven't yet received their checks. A couple of the reasons that are listed are:

1. "You make too much money.
Some people might not be getting a $1,200 stimulus payment right now because they make too much money.
The Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act, the legislationís official name from which the acronym CARES ostensibly derives, authorized $1,200 payments to individuals making below $75,000 and $2,400 to married couples earning under $150,000. The program also pays parents $500 for each child age 17 and under.
The payments decline by $5 for every $100 above the $75,000/$150,000 threshold. Anyone making over $99,000 doesnít qualify, nor do couples making over $198,000.

2. Glitches could be slowing delivery
Some national tax preparers offer advances on a clientís refund, with the money loaded onto a debit card. Yet that could mean the IRS might not be putting the stimulus money in the right account."

Re: US Coronavirus Stimulus Checks [Cheques]

Most people are eligible.

https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/econ...er#eligibility

Although some filers, such as high-income filers, will not qualify for an Economic Impact Payment, most will. Taxpayers likely won't qualify for an Economic Impact Payment if any of the following apply:
  • You do not have any qualifying children and your adjusted gross income is greater than
    • $198,000 if your filing status was married filing jointly
    • $136,500 for head of household
    • $99,000 for all other eligible individuals
  • You can be claimed as a dependent on someone elseís return. For example, this would include a child, student who can be claimed on a parentís return or a dependent parent who is claimed on their childís return.
  • You do not have a Social Security number that is valid for employment.
  • You are a nonresident alien.
  • You filed Form 1040-NR or Form 1040NR-EZ, Form 1040-PR or Form 1040-SS for 2019.
  • An incarcerated individual.
  • A deceased individual.
  • An estate or trust.

Re: US Coronavirus Stimulus Checks [Cheques]

This was added to the IRS website on June 9th. It may take up to 9 weeks to receive the check at a foreign address.

"If Get My Payment shows your Payment was issued but you have not received it and it has been more than 5 days since the scheduled deposit date (or more than 4 weeks since it was mailed by check (6 weeks if you have a forwarding address on file with the local post office; 9 weeks if you have a foreign address)), you should initiate a trace on your Payment by calling the IRS at 800-919-9835 or you may submit Form 3911 (PDF). If you call, please be advised that you may experience long wait times or recorded assistance due to limited staffing. If you submit the form and you are Married Filing Joint, both spouses must sign the form."

Re: US Coronavirus Stimulus Checks [Cheques]

Do you think Trump realizes the letter with his signature was sent in English and Spanish?? I kind of doubt it.

I received my letter, dated May 6, yesterday. The direct deposit happened a while ago.

I can update. I received the Trump letter today (16.June, dated 01.May) at my Swiss address as on my tax return, but still no check. Anyone else in the same position?

Exactly the same position. Bear in mind though that at least until recently, the Swiss and US Posts had suspended the exchange of mail between the two countries as there werenít enough passenger flights for the mailbags to go on. So Iím not yet concerned.

Does anyone read Spanish well enough to know if Trump came across as bombastically as in the English language version? Iím curious.

Well I am glad some people are starting to get letters at least.
This explains the delay. Probably quite a backlog of mail. I know my parents send me a card in April that hasnt arrived yet either...
I would have set up direct deposit had I figured out the address business faster...

Re: US Coronavirus Stimulus Checks [Cheques]

I received my letter also last Monday here in Winterthur. It was sent out May 1st. I found a post online about how mail now is being sent abroad by ships. It looks like the checks that were mailed on the 1st of May could have been sent on the ship that departed on the 15th of May and was supposed to reach the Netherlands on the 9th of June. Here is the link:

Re: US Coronavirus Stimulus Checks [Cheques]

I received my letter last week and I don't know why because I am above the threshold as far I understand it. No check yet though either.

I am afraid I am going to get saddled with unnecessary paperwork and have nothing to show for it. Did anyone else receive a letter when they are above the threshold income? Is the threshold income based on gross income or after foreign earned income exclusion? I don't understand why I got the letter!

Re: US Coronavirus Stimulus Checks [Cheques]

A couple of points and hope this is useful
- the letters weren't linked to payments. If you filed a return you got a letter

For eligibility, you need to have filed a return in either 2018 or 2019 and then look at your adjusted income. The exact box number to determine that depends on the last year of filing and have included a couple of links with info on this.

Also, fyi but there is a second stimulus payment, but requires you to have filed both 2018 and 2019

https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/econ...mpact-payments

You can also check on status of the 1st payment with this link

The threshold is based on AGI - your adjusted gross income. Check line 7 on your 2018 Form 1040, or line 8b on your 2019 Form 1040.

Here's the max AGI number to look for, based on the info from the IRS as of 5 June. Note that the amounts are now lower than what someone else posted above:
  • single or married filing separately: 75,000
  • married filing jointly: 150,000
  • head of househould: 112,500

I don't see anything in your links about a second stimulus payment. AFAIK the House has proposed a second wave of payments, but the Senate has not even considered the legislation, much less passed another round.

Re: US Coronavirus Stimulus Checks [Cheques]

So mine arrived today. A paper check unfortunately, not the prepaid debit cards that one can actually use. No idea how I'm going to cash this thing. My US bank won't let me do digital deposits on their app, as they "can't detect that you are in the U.S.". I tried PayPal's check deposit on their app, but since the govt combined mine and my wife's first and middle names, they "don't match the name on your paypal account"...

You could try a VPN and use your app that way?

Nope. VPN didn't work, faking GPS location didn't work. Setting up a full Android virtual machine with hard-coded location and EN-US as the default culture code. In the end, Capital One customer support told me to just sign the check, write the account number below the signature, and post it to their office in Minnesota for a manual deposit...
