Moving from DeGiro to Interactive Brokers

Hello everyone!

Due to some lack of tools on DeGiro for the everyday trading Im moving to Interactive Brokers, does anyone knows what is the process of moving the whole portfolio?

So far I tried to contact the people from I.B. but no luck... Seems that with all this coronavirus around no one is reachable

Thanks in advance!

They have an option to move portfolios from other brokers and they provide a big list with other companies. Most likely DeGiro will be included.

The process is just like the one placing a deposit. Take a look:

Thanks! I will take a look at it... I was in the process of opening the account when this came to my mind, since they ask you to deposit 10k to open the account

They give you 3 months to send the money or positions worth $10k although I think recently they have removed the minimum amount requirement but could be only for US residents.

So you open the account and then you have 3 months to do the rest.

Re: Moving from DeGiro to Interactive Brokers

Fun fact for those who wanted to do the same as I'm doing right now, at the time of transferring your whole portfolio, this wont be possible since DeGiro is not among the companies where this feature of transferring the whole portfolio from broker to broker is possible.

Sad.

Re: Moving from DeGiro to Interactive Brokers

Hi,

I am also considering to change from DEGIRO to IB. I am interested in knowing what's your opinion of IB vs DEGIRO now that you already have some months of experience with IB.

In terms of availability of stocks does IB has the same broad offer as DEGIRO? I opened an eToro account and I am very disappointed with them. Many stocks that I own in Degiro are not available, the platform feels like a game instead of a proper stock trading platform and I am running in circles trying to find the best (cheapest) way of transferring fund to and from eToro. The issue is that they accept transfers to eToro in other currencies than USD, but they charge 0,5% fee and for the transfers from eToro they only do in USD, which means that my bank will charge quite high fee for converting the USD in CHF (or Eur if I send to my Portuguese account) at a very bad conversion rate.

Thanks in advance,
Joaquim

Broader.
US-domiciled ETFs for example.

I have done a deposit with my "normal" debit card and I will make another deposit with the N26 debit card. When I make a withdrawal I will let you know the difference between N26 and a normal bank.

You pay 0 for deposit or withdrawal of CHF (from a regular bank account, e.g. UBS) at IB.
CHF-USD forex costs cca 2 USD.

Re: Moving from DeGiro to Interactive Brokers

How you do that? I use UBS and when making deposit I get two IBANs starting CH and GB. In the note it says if your bank do not accept the one starting in CH, please use GB. In UBS it didn't take CH IBAN well or I did something wrong... and it is considered as international transfer - 5CHF

Is your base currency in IB CHF or USD? (that shouldn't play a role IMO, mine is USD in fact)
And you "prepared" the funds transfer from within IB; registered the UBS incoming account etc.? (also don't see how it should matter, since your limitation seems to be on the UBS side)

I am using the CH IBAN in my transactions without issues, also through UBS; not sure what is the source of troubles for you.

Very nice, I tried again and message is now very clear:

Please take note of the following:
Please use the "Domestic payment" payment type for payments within Switzerland and Liechtenstein.

That was not the case half year ago. It was something in the lines of "cannot accept this IBAN blabla", that's why I started using GB one, as suggested during IB transfer preparation.

Now scheduled domestic payment for December using CH IBAN without issues. Thank you for saving 5CHF/month !!!
