Tax Vaud

Hi we moved to Vaud from Geneva at beginning of 2019 so have just submitted first tax return here. Been on tax return system since 2012.

I pay alimony to ex-wife in UK and legal agreement includes payment to support children through their first degree. With Geneva tax authorities that was accepted for 2016,17 and 18 but have just received tax decision from Vaud and they have refused this saying as soon as a child reaches 18 no alimony can be deducted.

Given I have three years of tax returns in Geneva where this principle was agreed i'm going to challenge it.

Does anyone have any similar experience or has anyone successfully challenged a tax decision? Any tips?

many thanks

Re: Tax Vaud

Can't help you directly with the issue, but it doesn't surprize me. We're in Switzerland and each canton has its own tax regulations, so what happens in Geneva may well not happen in Vaud.
You can try wading your way through the booklet that comes with the tax declaration and see if there's anything there.
By the way I would suggest not mentioning that you managed to deduct it in Geneva. There's no love lost between the two cantons and saying something like that might make them say "no" even more strongly.
