My account was with Lloyds too until they divested TSB and moved some accounts over. I could have asked to stay with Lloyds but it was made clear that it would be their decision rather than mine. Now of course I wish I had tried.

I would say most, if not all, UK banks require you to be a UK resident and some require you to only be a UK tax resident. Yo can of course always lie and see how that goes.

My Barclays account was schedule to be closed in January, because I am not UK resident.

I had my EU address with Barclays. When I phoned in and got customer support to enter my Swiss address I was able to keep the account (for the time being). Their guidance really seemed not very clear about non-UK and non-EU residents.

I emptied the account before deadline though

so as to not leave anything to Her Majesty in case the account would be closed nevertheless.
