contact payment requirement for contactless bank card

Hello All,

did anyone faced this issue with Postfinance and other banks:
after several contactless payments (on POS terminal) you are required to enter the card into POS terminal for contact payment?

Re: contact payment requirement for contactless bank card

Iíve had this with UBS card. I assume they check every so often that the person using the card is the owner by asking for the chip & pin.

Sounds more like the contactless part isn't working on the till for your card - there's an Aldi near work where my contactless Revolut never plays ball and I always have to insert the card and enter the PIN whereas with the other till the contactless works every time. Colleagues with UBS and other cards have the same grief so its definitely the till.

Re: contact payment requirement for contactless bank card

I've had a few cases, particularly in restaurants, where the payment terminal won't accept contactless payments on the terrace outside the restaurant, but will accept payment when inserting the card. The waiter usually mutters something about the wifi not working well outside, but that doesn't make sense to me. Unless contactless payment requires a proper permanent internet connection, whilst card/PIN payments can be accepted without and are transferred once the terminal returns back inside?
