Hi, my first post is a tax question, I guess I'm not the first to do that though.

I’m thinking of buying in Baselland and have been told that the Handänderungssteuern has recently been withdrawn for purchasers, if it is their sole residence. Looking at the Cantonal website implies that it will be removed, but I’m not sure if it has. Also I own a property in the UK, would this influence the tax situation, i.e. it would not be my sole property, but it would be my sole residence.

Are there any other taxes or fees I should expect to pay?

Oh yes indeed there are look at or search for buying a house in Switzerland in this forum. Be very aware that Swiss tax is on global wealth and income so best keep quiet about the UK house if you get my drift...
