Tax for non resident Hello everyone I was visiting my brother in swiss on a tourism Schengen visa .I was a student and I don’t work .however ,during my visit I did withdraw money from my fx account .however my brother received a mail mentioning that I have pay around 7000 as taxable income from investment I did pay the whole amount However ,I was told that I can get back the amount as I don’t reside in swiss nor I do work here Can someone tell me the process and what is the procedure o get back the money and how long does it take Thanks in advance |
Re: Tax for non resident The country's name is Switzerland, not Swiss. ;) Why does your brother get mail when it is "your" account? Is this letter post or e-mail? From whom did he get this mail? Why is "income" generated on a FX (foreign exchange) account? Why is there "investment" done on a FX account? At which institution/bank is this account? What does "I have pay around 7000 as taxable income from investment" actually mean? Was the income CHF 7000, or is the tax to be paid CHF 7000? |
Re: Tax for non resident Why pay anything? You weren't resident here so owe no Swiss tax, plain and simple. Only people with a Swiss residence permit are subject to Swiss tax, tourists aren't. Could be a scam. Demand your payment back asap because you don't owe anything. |
It doesnot matter how much I just paid 7000 tax which I’m not supposed to pay I don’t live in swiss and I am not willing to live in it.I was just asking how I can get my money back It is fx account that used for trading Exactly I totally agree with you I’m just want to know the process to get my money back with waiting for several month |
Re: Tax refund for non resident Who did you supposedly pay this money to? |

Step two, do not be snarky with people which are willing to give you free help. Step three, pay a professional which is happy with your attitude as they get money. |

It takes a lot of effort to explain all the details in another language, and you may not want to give your your financial info. I suggest you call the tax office directly. They are normally very helpful and on the rare occasions (in my case) they have made a mistake they have fixed it as soon as they knew. |

Re: Tax refund for non resident A strange post. I regularly draw money from my investment accounts while traveling abroad and am certainly not liable to any tax on it. Besides, IF there was a tax liability, it would only be due at the end of the current tax year and even then a declaration would have to be made and any payment would be due several months later! |
