professional trader status

Hi all,

My first post in the community, but I'm a longtime reader.

My question is whether anybody had direct experience with being considered a professional trader (PT) by the tax authorities. Meaning, you were considered a PT and you managed to get out of it, you didn't manage to get out of it or you thought you would be treated as a PT and eventually nothing happened, the latter being probably the most interesting.

So I am aware about all the rules and all the discussions on how lenient tax authorities could or could not be, but I am wondering if people with direct experience with this could share their case.

Many thanks

Mark
