Depositing Cash into Someone's Account

I need to deposit some cash into someone else's account (they are travelling).

The fun part is that they account is held by Banque cantonal du Valais, and I live in Zurich.

Short of driving to Valais, any ideas? (and not so keen to transfer the money from my account; would rather deposit the cash somehow...)

Re: Depositing Cash into Someone's Account

Do you have their IBAN? You should be able to go to the post office and transfer the money from there. I donít think they will let you do it anonymously though.

Good idea. With the Post though, you need to add 3-4 days. They are not the fastest (from recent experience).

Can you do that without having a Post account?

Re: Depositing Cash into Someone's Account

As far as I know, you can use this service to pay in cash (you bring it, phyisically, to their offices), and transfer it to anywhere:
https://www.riafinancial.com/en/web/guest.

Apart from Ria, I think Moneygram works the same way.

You could transfer into that person't account. Or else directly to them, wherever they now are. When they get the notification, they would have to go to the Ria or the Moneygram office with a reference number, and identification, to collect the cash.

I'm fairly sure the costs would be higher than a bank transfer, though.

Ooooh.. this sounds good

If it is over 20k you will need to declare the source. So even driving down may not help. Some banks worry about money laundering from illicit sources- selling drugs, casino wins which you should pay tax on etc. Apparently selling fire arms is ok though.
Bring receipts from house sales.

Is this now possible which just the IBAN? Will you also need the PC (Post account) number of the bank branch?

Edit: it should be 10-725-4

Why? Are they drug dealers? Nah. This is another one of those "I want to do something, but for some unknown reason, the obvious solution isn't available".

The only thing the banks worry about is being caught not having asked as it's the law now.

Use Western Union? (Have them meet recipient on a dark parking-lot next to the highway )

Substantially less than 20k - so that's not an issue. It's more around depositing it without the recipient knowing it comes from me...

Will try the post office option tomorrow.

I see, makes sense. Will be difficult though as one is not allowed to accept/spend money one doesn't know where it came to the account from.

Don't you know someone in ... Valais? Was it? .... who could pay it in for you and you transfer the money to them? The person would need to add a comment to the payment though so recipient at least knows it's legit. "A little help from a friend" or something.

Oh, and if it's not a substantial sum (re law) you could always use a fake name on the post-payment slip? They won't know.

Re: Depositing Cash into Someone's Account

At the post office you will have to write something in the payer field of the bulletin. You donít have to be truthful, you could write Samichlaus if you want, they will insist on something.

It depends if you mean "...without knowing..." or "without EVER knowing..."

Bank to Bank transfers usually only put the Payment Reference in the statement/online screen. So the recipient will only see that Samichlaus sent it even if you do a bank to bank transfer.

However, usually a few clicks might give more info on the sender...

Kind regards

Ian

Are you sure about this? If I transfer money from my account it would be substantially easier... but I always assumed they would see my name and account number...
