Zurich living cost

I know there are a load of Zurich living cost threads, but the ones similar to my question are old, so please bear with me and thanks in advance for any concrete info, particularly if anyone is in a similar situation.

Scenario

* offspring will do Lehre in Zurich

* the following will be paid for by yours truly:
- accommodation and nebenkosten
- ZVV pass
- mobile phone subscription (including unlimited data)
- health insurance
- mandatory study materials (if not covered by the company)

* ideally offspring manages the following:
- food
- clothing
- basic going-out money
- electronics and other stuff if they break it

So I cover the big ticket, fixed cost items, they manage the smaller stuff where they have some choice (i.e. if they blow their budget on McDonalds every day, bye bye new jeans). If starvation looms they can come home and eat.

So the question is how much (per month) does their part require?

Re: Zurich living cost

Food: 100 chf/week should be more than enough if he can cook at home (even better if he shares apartment with somebody else)

Clothing: depends on what's necessary. I haven't spend a single chf in clothing in the last couple of months.

Going out money: right now, there is nothing to do, so 0. When things open up again, maybe 50 chf/week?

Electronics: this is tricky. Depends again on what's necessary. If your offspring breaks 1 iphone per month, then it's going to be expensive!

It also depends on the lifestyle. I know students that get by with 500 chf/month ... others have side jobs in order to support their lifestyle (ie: going out every night, for example)

Re: Zurich living cost

My daughter is in her final year, and shares an apartment with a friend in Lugano.

They each earn around 1600/month. Health insurance is fully subsidized by the state (at least for my daughter, probably her flatmate as well).

They usually cook at home, so other than basic food costs, there is fuel, road tax, and insurance (they both have bikes), and the occasional bus or train ticket, plus phone and internet costs.

Rent is 450/month (each).

Zurich is probably not much different, unless he eats out a lot. How much does he earn?

Tom
