Late Tax Form & Pillar 3A

Greetings,

I have been residing in Zurich since March 2020. I am employed as a Software Engineer and my brutto Salary is < 120k CHF/year, taxed at source.

I have a certificate for my contributions to pillar 3A.

I was expectant to receive some form of tax declaration over post, which never arrived. Upon some research online I found a PDF for Withholding Tax which was supposed to be filled out until the 31st of March 2021. Needless to say, I widely missed the deadline.

Is there anything that I can still do to potentially obtain some tax refund of the money that I put in the pillar 3a during 2020? Otherwise, some advice on this situation would be extremely welcome!

Kind regards

The deadline for the simplified return is firm, no more chance for 2020. Anyway 2020 was the last tax year allowing simplified returns from tax-at-source.
Alternatively, you could fill a full declaration (like people above 120k or C permit/citizenship do). Be aware, depending on your actual wealth/income situation you might end up paying more (it's not necessarily a return...). Let a tax advisor calculate it for you.
Also: if you fill a full declaration in Kanton Zürich there is no way back: you will always have to fill it until you leave the country.

Write to the tax office and explain it is your first year and you missed the deadline and could they do an extension? I found them always very reasonable. Nothing to loose anyway.

Withdraw the 3A deposit from 2020.
