Credit Suisse too, I would always have excess coins from my shop and bar, once a week I would throw them in as part of my weekly banking.
Where is such a machine?

I haven't seen one for a long time.

If you are a customer at UBS, they offer a counting service. Free for amounts under CHF100, small charge if more than CHF100.

https://www.ubs.com/ch/en/help/account/coins.html
So if you've 150 Francs worth, deposit one lot, then go to the back of the queue and deposit the rest.

Why donít the Swiss just get rid of the 5 centime piece? Round everything to the nearest 10.
Some claim it would be inflationary. But mainly I think it's inertia.

You can still get 1 rappen pieces for special events.

Re: Get rid of the Coins

I'm the treasurer of our choir and the collections at our concerts often end up with loads of coins. The bancomat at the bank where we have our account will just count up all the coins. You throw them all into the machine, it jiggles around for a minute or two and credits the amount to the account. Does the same thing with banknotes, though I straighten them out before loading them into the machine.
The only thing I have to do in advance is to pull out Euros, which some people throw into the collection boxes.

Where are the functioning machines that remain? I also have a ton of coins that I collected that I need to change for real monies.

I guess I could just take it to the Postfinance cash register and ask them to count it and then put it into my account... and ruin the day of whoever happens to be working on the counter at the time.
The postfinance branch near to me has a machine where you can deposit coins. You dont need to sort, just toss everything in and it rejects non CHF currency :-)

Their branches at Uraniastrasse and Seefeldstrasse both had them 7 weeks ago. I don't think the Paradaplatz one did though.
