Swapping precious metals for another

In some US states, the local precious metal dealers do direct which doesn't generate tax event. I have been told it was totally legal activity. You could buy physical silver and swap it at a later point for gold or platinum etc.

I learned that in Switzerland, buying and selling physical gold is tax free but not other physical PM. Would any of you know if like for like swap that doesn't generate a tax event is done at local PM dealers and would that is for sure legal?

I meant to say, "In some US states, the local precious metal dealers do direct swap/exchange which doesn't generate tax event". But I don't see edit post button anywhere.

To avoid VAT on the purchase/ sale of non-gold precious metals, consider searching for a dealer who is not registered for VAT. Typing "münzen" in the commercial register lists four dealers in the German-area who are not registered for VAT:
