| | Zurich Taxes
Hello,
Some months ago i moved to zurich canton from argau. In between i got my C permit and my income is 135k. I am trying to calculate how much tax i will pay (in total) because recently i got a letter from zurich city saying as "recomendation" a tax of around 6k chf! I logged in my account at the https://www.stadt-zuerich.ch/steuernverwalten and there was a tax calculator that gave me a result of total 21k as a "Total state and municipal tax"
My question is does anybody know if this amount will be my TOTAL tax that i have to pay or this is just zurich city tax?
Thanks in advance

it's not going to be everything. It will actually say what the provisional bill is for and will be finalised once you complete a tax return.
Look for a world that ends in Steuer. Type that into a reply below |

I am just trying to understand an estimation in order to make savings. Another site mentioned that my area has 30% total tax . Would that be an estimation?

Where did you live on 31 Dec 2020? This defines where you pay tax for 2020. If you move this year, then you pay 2020 in ZH, 2021 in AG.
How much? Find out your taxable income (deducting social security and health insurance etc.) and use Comparis for calculation for the Gemeinde you live in.

In Switzerland you pay taxes on three level: - national (Bundessteuer)
- cantonal (in your case canton of Zurich)
- municipal (in your case city of Zurich)
Most likely the invoice you got is an estimate from the city of Zurich or maybe the cantonal. For the federal you will receive a seperate invoice.
Maybe the 30% is not a bad guestimate.

Dear Marknow
If you earn 135K gross your taxable income is around 120K.
Assuming you live in Zurich City, you do not pay church tax and you are single, total tax is around 23K.

Yes that's my case. Single , no church tax and Zurich city. If it is 23k total then sounds good! I was afraid it would be around 37k!

Bundes tax is always billed separately and might by 4-5K.

Tom | | | | | Hi Tom!
Actually, I thought I might have missed an important piece of information here
Anyway, to answer OP: your taxes will be less than whatever you paid in AG in 2020 (if your situation/salary/etc hasn't changed dramatically)
*Sarcasm ON* wouldn't it be wonderful if TOTAL taxes would be 6'000 chf/year? |

| | Re: Zurich Taxes | Quote: | | | | | Smart | | | | | Depends where in AG I think. AG tends to be very slightly higher than Zurich city, but some municipalities are lower.
When you factor in health insurance (effectively a tax), most of AG will be cheaper than Zurich city.
