Bye-bye UBS Access Card - Finally

Last Friday I locked out my UBS Access card for the umpteenth time and ordered (yet) another one. This morning I got this in the mail...

UBS have finally replaced the silly Access card with the Access app.

BTW - does anyone know how to post pictures in portrait mode?

Silly EF can do 800x600 but not 600x800.

Re: Bye-bye UBS Access Card - Finally

Did you get any information on what you need to do now when you want to pay to a new bank account?

I use the access app but everytime I want to set up a new payment account, it tells me to enter a code on that thing (and not in the app).

Seemingly this will be a feature in the Access App now

Soon, you’ll be able to confirm new payment recipients easily via smartphone – with the Access App. So the “card reader and Access Card” duo will be a thing of the past.*

They send you a push message for confirmation.

I also had this with their call centre - put in my details and the automated system sent me a push confirmation, no more "what's your full name, date of birth, some random transaction" etc

Re: Bye-bye UBS Access Card - Finally

Got the email too. The link in there sends you to this UBS site explaining the whole thing. https://www.ubs.com/ch/en/private/di...ccess-app.html

But, if you declare you don't have a smartphone or even a phone you can still have it. As geriatric millenial, I like the calculator like device because it always works. I have lost phones, broke the screen, the battery is always a problem...but I'm a geriatric millenial

DO NOT THROW AWAY YOUR ACCESS CARD AND READER

As I found out a few weeks ago, when you have a new smartphone then the only way to authorise it for use on ebanking is by using the access card and reader.

My access card did not work and it took UBS three weeks to deliver a new one to me so I had no smartphone access for that time.
I could not use my old smartphone because they had upgraded the access app to a level that needed a new operating system not available on my old phone.

Yeah, we had that problem as well; hubby had to get a new cheap phone just for that. No warning the older system wasn't going to be supported anymore either, just suddenly no longer worked.

Not suggesting that anyone throw out their access cards. However as they are now "on the way out" I assume the app can be activated another way. According to website you can use an "activation letter" as an alternative. https://www.ubs.com/ch/en/private/di...3A%3A%3A#video

Re: Bye-bye UBS Access Card - Finally

a PhotoTAN would be very welcome, thank you UBS. I just ordered a new Access Card as I reset my phone, had a reader with dead batteries and did not know my PIN for the Access Card as I never used it for 5 years.

All to complain about the Visa debit card I received yet did not want, having had no card for those 5 years.

And to identify myself, they want me to know the balance of an account I have not really been using After several attempts to guess plus naming some people that are officers of the bank who can identify me, I had to get in the car and go talk to some kid just out of nappies

At least the weather was nice.

Woah there buddy

I've been using the App for ages.. but you still need that f'n card reader because sometimes when you are online and trying to pay a bill you are asked to confirm the payment using a code generated from a few digits from the payment details as input to the card reader to generate the code you need to complete the online payment

The video does indeed say that you can use an "activation letter" as an alternative.

From the UBS web site
Quote:
to activate the [smartphone] Access App please follow the instructions in the [downloaded] app.
These instructions tell you to use the access card and reader.

I even visited my "UBS client adviser" personally to complain but they told me using the access card and reader was the only way to activate my smartphone.

But do feel free to throw out your access cards.....

I think the App will allow this - it's called "Transaction Signing"

I have had this problem too. Usually, I was asked to sign the transaction using my smartphone but very rarely, maybe less than 1% of the time, I was asked to use my access card and reader. I did complain to UBS who clearly did not understand my problem and in answer sent me a new reader!

I would guess there is some old code in the ebanking app that sometimes gets activated.

Re: Bye-bye UBS Access Card - Finally

About the activation letter, I found this on the UBS website.
Quote:
Note: This activation mode will be introduced gradually and only be available to you at a later time if need be.
Seems to be something lost in their translation?

BTW, I also have an account with ZKB - they sent me a letter with a QR code and so I could activate my new smartphone in a couple of days.
