3rd pillar with B permit - changes

Hi guys,

According to the new changes in tax deduction for B permit - does it make sense to invest in 3rd pillar as a marriage with B permit with income higher than 120k per year (I've read that above 120k you should still be able to submit "Antrag für quellensteuerpflichtige Arbeitnehmende
auf Neuveranlagung der Quellensteuer")? If it matters, I mean kanton Zürich now.

We should still be able to deduct 3rd pillar investments, right?

If you are earning above 120k then nothing changes.

And it doesn't matter if we separately earn below 120k as long as we are married and are doing taxes together, right?

In that case I *think* you will no longer be able to submit a simplified request for deduction (as in 2020) but will have to file a full tax return like those earning over 120k.

Obviously this has two potential problems:

a) difficultly or cost in doing the full tax return,
b) your withholding tax is iirc based on your canton of residence but not your Gemeinde. If your Gemeinde is high tax for your canton (eg Zurich city) then filing the tax return will increase your taxes (although pillar 3 would lower it).

To be honest if you earn below 120k and live in Zurich city I'd probably just invest it directly into the stock market.

I've also read somewhere that once you do taxes as someone who earns less than 120k, you're then obliged to do so forever.
So thread carefully.
