Having 2 to 3 million in your pocket definitely makes it easier to find someone.

Even in Switzerland.

Re: What would you do with CHF 2-3 millions ?

Ha, some of these answers crack me up. 2-3 million ? Oh it‘s not nearly enough, I need more. Me thinks no matter how much you have, it will never be enough. No wonder the world is in such a state.
Only when the last tree has been cut down, the last fish been caught, and the last stream poisoned, will we realize we cannot eat money.

I would build a small and awesome school. All welcome.

With a community art/music center in the basement. True underground!
This made me smile. Thank you for that very nice and kind idea.

I would offer EB 1/2 a million for EF. I will leave EF running for a few months to hear everyone moan and complain.

Then I will finally pull the plug on EF for good so that you all can get on with your real life and be a bit more productive

Set aside taxes I would use half of net amount to buy a luxury property then 25% stocks and 25% cash.

Instead of cash you could buy gold bars and gold rolexes and store them in a bank safety box and pray for the best. I would prefer cash though.

You won't buy a luxury property with 50% net of income tax, if you invest in Fundsmith in 10 years you probably could buy a luxury property in CH with 50% of the 2031 value.

They say that money
Can't buy love in this world
But it'll get you a half-pound of cocaine
And a sixteen-year old girl
And a great big long limousine
On a hot September night
Now that may not be love
But it is all right*

Likely to end up in prison as a sex offender in Switzerland if you try that.

Precious metal Rolexs don’t generally hold their value that well.

if you're immortal, then SWR would be equal to the perpetual rate. it's just a note that people sometimes take the SWR without realising that it having zero balance after 30 years is considered a successful outcome in the formulation of that rate. probably you wouldn't consider it a successful outcome if you want to retire at 35.
Exactly! The best laid plans often go astray - my idea was to kick the bucket at 60 and here I am, 110 years old and still obnoxiously well off

I have no clue who is Fundsmith.

This week I had a discussion with someone facing a similar dilemma, what to do with a couple of millions. It seems a common attitude in Switzerland is keep working, saving and investing. The best case is working less, maybe having an additional day or two off per week. If you see men working 80% or less, the chance is good they are multimillionaires.
I would invest it into a well-diversified portfolio of stocks, and some gold (stocks), in a staggered manner, not all at once. At your age, you could go up to 100% in stocks, however you need to have someone who is able to protect your portfolio in a downturn (like 2008, or in Q1 2020). But don't go to a bank, they are product sales people, and usually they sell you the most expensive one, and usually it doesn't add any value compared to an ETF. Be aware that there are too many dishonest people in this industry.
Look around if you could find someone who is independent, free of conflicts of interest and has a good performance track record.
Perhaps you would also like to reserve some money to set up your own business, with something you really love to do, and perhaps you could even grow your money on top of that. But you need to have some entrepreneurial ambitions for that, some people prefer to stay employed. But take your time to think about it, talk to other people who set up their own business, think about about your existing job and how much you love to do this job ...

Doing nothing would have been your best protection in either of the downturns & especially 2020, getting into cash would have been an expensive mistake, for a long term investment crashes are irrelevant.

Fully agree, got a call to ask if I wanted to sell, told them I‘d ride it out, best decision I made that year 😀

I tend to keep what I have in my portfolio and so far been doing well. I know a lot of people do sell/buy a lot, I just try to buy more when I think the price is right/low enough.

You need at least 2 - 3M in Switzerland for something "nice".

So use the 1M as downpayment of a nice place and put the rest into Fundsmith and use the gains to pay the mortgage and some. In the last 10 years, 1M would have gotten you a nice 200K/year tax-free "allowance".
