Working from home in Switzerland for a foreign company

Hi All

My wife and I are moving to Switzerland at the start of 2009. My wife will be employed by a company in Switzerland but I will still be working for my current employer (foreign company registered in Dubai). We are non-EU and my wife will receive a B-permit.

3 Questions:
Am I allowed to work like this without restriction or do I have to receive a work permit first?
How does the tax work do I have to pay Swiss social security and income tax, or just income tax?
Is it more efficient to set up a Swiss company and work as a contractor, or should I just remain an employee of a foreign company (less hassle and paperwork)?

Thanks for any help.

Re: Working from home in Switzerland for a foreign company

If your place of work is in Switzerland, then you need a Swiss work permit.

Swiss residents must pay social-security, income-tax and wealth-tax on all global revenues and assets. Your assets and revenues will be added to your wife's and taxed.

Setting up a Swiss company necessitates initial and ongoing paperwork. There may be some tax benefits. Ask a tax expert.

Welcome to the forum.
You never mentioned the length of time you 2 are planning on staying but this is also a temporary loophole if you are under the time allotted to foreign workers.
