Swiss tax on overseas earnings Hi there, I'm an Australian resident, but I've been living in Switzerland for two years. Next year I'm marrying my Swiss fiance, and then I'll be registering here (Canton Bern). I'm lucky in that I don't work in Switzerland, but on a freelance basis, mainly in the Middle East, for about 6 - 8 months a year. So I fulfill the Swiss visa regulations, and I'm able to live here legally (without holding residence). My question is, once I'm married and registered next year, are my earnings from OS (employed on a freelance basis by a UK company, in various countries outside Switzerland, and paid into a Swiss account) taxed differently than earnings within Switzerland? Thanks in advance for any replies. David |
Re: Swiss tax on overseas earnings Quote:
Once you get married both of your global earnings from all sources are pooled and taxable. The main question really is if you can hide some of these earnings or whether they will be clear for the tax authorities. Usually if you pay tax on them in another country there is an agreement to avoid double taxation which you can take advantage of but I would be looking to have a company set up to act as an intermediary to avoid paying the full whack... |
