IRS Form?

Please help! I would like to know the proper form to use when filing US taxes after having lived/worked in Switzerland a toal of six months and four months in 2008. Is it 1116? If so, any tips for filling it out? Complicated would be an understatement. PM me please!

The main form that you always fill out is 1040. Do you mean
for the foreign income exclusion?

Re: IRS Form?

What you need to know is, you can take either

1. Foreign Tax Credit - in this case use Form 1116

OR

2. Foreign Income Exclusion of 87600( Yours will pro-rated for the
amount of time spent in Switzerland)

Calculate your taxes both ways, and use whichever is better.
TurboTax is very easy to use for both of these cases.

Re: IRS Form?

You probably should read IRS Publication 54: Tax Guide for U.S. Citizens and Resident Aliens Abroad.
