Budget Prior to Moving

Hi guys,

I was wondering if you could have a quick look over my budget and reassure me that I'm being realistic/unrealistic as to my expenses etc.

I am trying to work out how much money I will have available to rent a flat. I will be living outside the city, close to Olten. I am single so only require a small place. Health Insurance is covered by my Company.

Removed due to worries of personal information
Would appreciate your advise.

Cheers

Gas isn't widely used here. Cooking is electric and heating is often oil.

Oh I see, OK, how much is heating likely to cost for a small 2 bedroom flat?

Re: Budget Prior to Moving

Not sure of the rents where you are, but that does sound a bit on the low side.

Also if your child is still going to be in the UK, will his parent be claiming for child benifit there? Not sure you can claim in both countries?

Utilities may be covered in the charge you get with your rent. We have a house so we don't get that, so not sure how it works.

What about going out/entertainment?

HTH

Re: Budget Prior to Moving

Hi, I have found a few apartments around Olten for 1000-1200, they state "additional charges" but do not say what's included in this. I will have to wait until I go and see them.

I didn't include going out etc as I just wanted to look at fixed costs rather than variable, so I can see how much money I should have free to play with.

I move next Friday, yeeeehaaaaa

Re: Budget Prior to Moving

If you're going to be living in a flat (presumably part of a larger complex of flats) heating costs will be divided up between all parties on a pro-rata basis, i.e. you have xxxxx m2 = 1/17th or 1/384th (or whatever) of the total living space to be heated in the complex means you pay just that amount. Actual costs depend on when your landlord filled up his heating oil tank. Bit difficult to guess, but it won't break your bank.
I saw in your budget you didn't mention clothes, shoes, shoe repairs, dry cleaning, household appliances, cleaning materials, books/newspapers, hairdresser (barber?), personal toiletries etc.

My ex will be claiming child benefit from the UK, but as I pay maintenance for him in UK, I will be allowed to claim allowance in Switzerland, apparantly..........
According to the form you would have to fill in you have to get a confirmation from the official department in the UK that the child doesn't get any benefits in his home country in order to qualify for the Swiss Kinderzulage.

My former work colleague went through the same thing and her son was also getting a child allowance in the UK which prevented him from receiving the Swiss equivalent.

I would check directly with your HR department at your new job to be sure. Show them the attached form.

Sorry about that, you'll get taxed on your net worth.
