You have identified a business opportunity. Convert your cellar into "independent facilities".

In the event of your death, your safe (or its contents, actually) becomes, like all your other assets, a part of your estate - to be disposed of as per your recorded will, or otherwise as per the inheritance laws of the jurisdiction.

A Limited company is a legal 'person' and enjoys all the rights thereof.
No reason why a limited co cannot lease and operate a safe deposit vault, just as it can own a car or a house.
I had this idea that if I could open safe deposit boxes for clients (using Limited Companies) then there would never be an actual death of a company so there would be no inheritance implications. The appointed adminstrator/director of the company would still have access to the safety deposit box and if the administrator/director dies the company just appoints a new administrator/director to open the safe deposit box.

Raiffessen told me that you can't open a safe deposit box in a Limitec Company. I wondered if any other bank would?

Security is my main concern. As you suggest perhaps I can call attorneys offices in Switz, but that would not alleviate my concerns about storage security. How will they ensure valuables are protected?
I can perfectly understand you, these days you can't even trust a bank like Coutts:

Hi folks, I was wondering if someone might know where I could rent a safety deposit box in Zurich without having to have a bank account at the same place?

Many thanks!

Re: Safety deposit box rental in Zurich?

Do you know if there are restrictions on what you can put in those boxes ? I am thinking firearms.
I wouldn't mind keeping a fake passport in there as well just in case but I have yet to find out where to get a good one

In Switzerland; I would think you would be OK if you can physically fit it in the box.
Safe deposit boxes in the UK generally get visits from the police with a sniffer dog. If the dog goes a bit ablistic; you generally get a court order to open the box in front of the police.

Re: Safety deposit box rental in Zurich?

Bumping this thread. I am looking for a safety deposit box also that is not affiliated with a bank. Somebody mentioned safes.ch but it's only in Geneva. I need one in Zurich.

Thanks.

Re: Safety deposit box rental in Zurich?

For your information:

I live in Lugano Area and I have noticed the following:

1) Safe deposit fee at Rafeissen has gone up from chf 34 to chf 85 per annum.

2) I have been told that there is an 18 month waiting list for a safe deposit box because a lot of Italians are renting them.

Googling on "schliessfach zürich" showed the following safety deposit boxes not at banks:
http://www.proaurum.ch/home/servicep...liessfach.html
http://www.degussa-goldhandel.ch/de/schrankfach.aspx
http://www.geiger-edelmetalle.ch/sho...Storage/nav/38

You could also search on "schrankfach zürich" and "safe zürich".

The SBB also offers Schliessfächer at the Zurich main station but you have to put coins in every few hours.

Re: Safety deposit box rental in Zurich?

Thank you Menno! It looks like Pro Aurum has no available boxes in Zurich (according to their web site).

Degussa Goldhandel looks interesting. Anybody have dealt with them before?

Thanks,

Degussa Goldhandel is backed by the von Fincks, a wealthy German family whose ancestors founded Allianz and MunichRe:

To review Degussa Goldhandel AG's Swiss commercial registry entry, go to this website and search on the company name:

www.zefix.ch

Also found this Sonntagszeitung article from July 2013 that says that ProAurum and Geiger's safety deposit boxes were fully rented but that Degussa still had availability (at that time):

Re: Safety deposit box rental in Zurich?

Bump bump.

How does the legal status of a non-bank safe deposit box compare to one in a bank?

I trust banks less and less, especially with the bail-in legislation that was introduced a few years ago by the Keynsenian statists at the SCB. Though one can probably hedge by avoiding the likes of UBS and Credit Suisse and sticking to kantonal banks.

You pay a price according to the size of box you want. Most boxes have draws which you can remove and simply slide your stuff in and out off giving you more room. I think the standard fee in Zuger Bank (Zug) is 70 CHF a year. All of the big banks, UBS, Credit Suisse, Zurich Cantonal Bank will have safe deposit rooms of boxes. You do yourself no favors by using a company that is not protected by banking secrecy laws.
You will need formal identification with photos, and you will need it each time you want to access your box. Take care to read the small print, Zug Kantonal Bank do not charge for access; but others may... will rapidly put you off having a SDB if you have to keep paying to access it.

Thank you for your message and your interest in a business connection with our bank. We let you know, that the Zuger Kantonalbank is a regional working bank and we do not open an account or an deposit box for people who live abroad.

Best regards
Zuger Kantonalbank

Any other good ideas? I need this for long term and yeah not to hide some dirty money there but just in case and yeah I am relatively poor so there is not much to "hide". I would prefer some box with lower yearly fee than 200CHF, thank you.

Re: Safety deposit box rental in Zurich?

Here's a list of companies offering private vault services in Switzerland:

http://www.offshoreprivatevaults.com...te-vaults.html

They appear to be about four times the price of typical safety deposit boxes at Swiss banks.

Re: Safety deposit box rental in Zurich?

You could buy a metal safe and bolt it to your apartment wall, all for less than Sfr 200,--

Don't tell everyone you have a safe, and the chances of being burgled by a professional safe cracker are zero.

Re: Safety deposit box rental in Zurich?

I also found
http://swissgoldsafe.ch/wp-content/u...ox-Tariffs.pdf

But I'm curious as to why Geiger Edelmetalle is so much cheaper than SwissGoldSafe and Degussa. Has anyone any experience with Geiger Edelmetalle?
