Car Leasing / Credit as a newcomer

Hi all,

I've had a search but not found the right info. Sorry if I've over looked something.

Basically I've been here 3 months now and am EU on a B permit. I'm told that before I can get any form of credit, I need to have been here 3 years (with the exception of a credit card).

I'm now looking at car leasing and am wondering if it's possible for a Swiss newbie to qualify. I've heard many a conflicting story about my eligibility. Do I have to wait 3 years or are the rules regarding leasing different to credit?

Cheers muchly

That's an interesting question. does anyone know?
Hi, I managed to get a lease on a Honda within my 1st month here without any problems. I had to show them proof of income etc, but it was all done and dusted within a week.

Cheers

Sean

As long as you can show you can afford it you should be fine.

Re: Car Leasing / Credit as a newcomer

I was in Switzerland for exactly 4 months when I leased my car, it was the easiest car buying I've ever done. The dealer did absolutely everything!

If you want to push the envelope I belive that typically you get offered up to around 65% of your annual salary as a max lease ammount (not a great idea that) aa and also I put up a 30% deposit.

Hope this helps,

Richard

I was here 18 months when I leased my car from Ford. It was
no problem for me.

Re: Car Leasing / Credit as a newcomer

I got a lease car during my first month here.
The car dealer arranged with the bank, first one asked to be living in Switzerland for at least 3 months or after the probatory period of the contract has finished. Second one didn´t request this 3 months...
Good luck finding your car!

Who told you that? Completely untrue as you can see from the responses.

Re: Car Leasing / Credit as a newcomer

Hello all..
So i moved here in January I have a B permit and i've just put down a deposit for leasing on a new car..

The first company (EFL) has refused saying that I'm far too new in the country so they can't consider me. I'm now trying with General electric I get a response tomorrow or the day after. I've provided my work contracts, bank statements and pay slips yet something is telling me that they're going to say the same

Then I looked at Migros finance online and they state you need to have lived here for at least a year. It makes sense, to make an accurate consideration they need to see my credit history over time..

Anyone have any ideas for me? I really need a car for work...

thanks

You could buy a small cheap car. You could use public transport. You could join Mobility, http://www.mobility.ch/en/pub/index.cfm or do all three options!

Please update your location, we cannot give you advice for Paris!
