Tax dodging is immoral and ruins it for everyone
Why wouldn't you want to pay your taxes? Don't you like how previous generations have paid to contribute to this society?
There are varying degrees and severity of morality... this sort of thing is on a level I can stand without too much guilt.

My latest moan is I just bought some stuff from vistaprint.ch (.ch, get it? .ch)

Turns out it's shipped from the Netherlands and I have 22 CHF to pay on 50 CHF worth of stuff.

Damn, that sucks! Not helped that they mention something at the bottom of the page, as an afterthought....

** Es können zusäztliche Kosten für den Zoll entstehen
** There may be additional charges due to customs

Yes they have the tendency to steal money, no doubt.
I bought some creams from USA, for 96 CHF, they charged the 7.6% on 136 CHF !!! wtf !!!! I am going to phone the zoll and ask my money back.
This is a robbery, I shouldn't have paid at post office, I should have called police instead to check an pinpoint the fraud.
I believe this is common international practice - duties are always charged on full value, including shipping and insurance. It would be the same in the UK, France or Germany for non-EU dutiable shipments, or in the US for any dutiable shipments?

Re: Holy s. what is this Zoll to pay when buying stuff from USA?!?!

I have ordered books from Amazon.com (USA) and have had it shipped directly to Switzerland with no Zoll to pay. However, I had a CD shipped from New Zealand and received a notice from the Post to supply them with a copy of the receipt in order for them to figure out the Zoll or else they were going to send the package back!

Hehe, and then having them slap the VAT on the second package as well? Sure....

Both had the declaration sticker on the package - so I do not know why they chose to spare me the cost for one of them, but I agree of course.
