Well, they're quick. I've only had my new work number for 4 days and they managed to call me this afternoon. Apparently she'd been trying to call me for a while....

I saw D* ****e was listed.
They find you on linkedin.
They call your company every two weeks.
Take the call.
Ask the caller's for his manager's name.
He won't give it to you.
Tell him that it must be very embarrasing to work for such a company.
They soon give up.
Awful people... awful job... feel sorry for the desperate gits.

Yeah they called me the other day with the same story.
Him - "My manager wants to give you some financial advice"
Me - "You must be aware that I work in a bank, why would I accept advice from you"
Him - "Erm"

I told them that I wasn't interested and asked them where they got my name from. They wouldn't tell me so I just told them to take me off their list and never to call me again.

Anyhow, just bumping this thread as it seems the sharks are still about, so they must be feeding on poor unsuspecting souls and the never ending influx of expats to CH.

Can i ask why doesnt it inspire confidence when the office is addresd with other companies, some office buildings have about 40 different floors so tehre could be 40 companies there.

I'm pretty sure of that, but have no way of confirming it, except that on the project I'm working on, with peaks of over 200 people, only the Brit expats ever get called.
I've also had this feedback from people at Novartis who also did an 'awareness' shout, and found the same thing, Swissies and other foreigners never get called. Maybe it's just a language thing.

However, that's moving away from the point of the post. Also, I know some of these salesmen are EF members, so maybe they'd care to explain who and why?

Why do "Limys" call swiss people always swissies:mad: My apologies to the other people from england ,you know the normal oens ;)

Swiss = Swissies
Germans = Krauts
French = Frogs / Frenchies
American = Yanks
Canadian = Flappy Heads

It's just one of those things.

I always tell these people that I have taken a vow of eternal poverty and give my money to the local Buddhist temple. Works a treat...

I'm guessing that's because a reputable, well established, financial company should probably have more than 10 square metres of office to themselves. CH doesn't tend to do 40 floor buildings...

So you are saying because its a small office it is not repuatable, every company started off somewhere, look at facebook, google etc.
You are just pressuming its a 10m office do you know that by fact???

Have you been ripped off by any of these companies???? As many people have opinions but how do they get these opinions without using them first???

Now I appreciate that we aren't able to name these despicable companies due to their overly-aggressive lawyers, but there's no way someone who clearly works for them is going to come on here and try to pull the wool over our eyes.

Get lost and stop cold calling us at work!

Because although past performance is not predictive of future performance, in real life we always judge companies by this.

(By the way, can I also take the opportunity to point out that adding "????" does not make a question harder to answer or more effective. Potentially combining "?!" might express an emphasis in the question. HTH)

More the fact that 37 companies belonging to the same umbrella company all have the same P.O. Box. I know if I was going to set up a lot of similar companies, all with the same call script, save for <insert name of company #24>, i would base them all in the same tiny office.

I also know that if my firm was good and reputable, i would have 37 franchises/branches of the same name, not 37 different ones i can close down and reopen at will to avoid any investigation.

Do you see?

Friends, this is a valuable thread and some important points have been raised and discussed (including differing and valuable points of view). So that we don't derail it, please let's not get into this type of bickering and mud slinging.

Oh, and please don't feed the trolls.

I got a call at work, I did not give anyone but my agent who got me the role the office number.

I don't think the agent himself sold my number, but someone at the agency or the agencies database has been hacked.

I have a sneaking suspicion that they phone the number ranges of the larger "expat" companies at random and quickly pick out the name when you answer.

I'm going to start answering my phone, "Hello, Rumplestiltskin Rattlesnake," to test my theory.

Did you put the company name on LinkedIn? Or any other social website? If so they probably found you and the company name and then searched for the office number. If you work for a big organisation then they are pretty sneaky about finding ways of getting through to you directly, eg through lying to secretaries and finding out your direct dial etc.

I recently opened a savings account with "[company name removed after they threatened to sue]" and I'm starting to feel concerned. Can someone who has experience with them write a post or pm me? Thanks. I was just looking for a place to put some savings and get a little exposure to the markets

Well, you may or may not need to be concerned. A thorough read of the small print will reveal all. When I saw DeBeards, they were keen to get me signed
up on the spot with no time to read the T&Cs.

If you read the very first post of this thread, it will highlight some watch points.
Depending on what you have signed up for, you can then decide to carry or write it off.
