Student loan

Hi guys,

I am a master student in Lugano, and believe or not, in a public university here, the tuition fee is 4000 CHF per semester...

So, I decided to look for student loans. And here it stricked me... There is no bank that gives student loans. I went to UBS, to Credit Suisse and the asnwer is the same - We do not offer student loans.

I was wondering if any of you, know a bank or institution that provides student loans?

I will appreciate your help.

Cheers,
V.

Re: Student loan

your own country, assuming you are not swiss many times has student loans to offer if you study abroad.
Also check into grants as many countries encourage studying abroad

Re: Student loan

Just out of interest, if you are not Swiss and think the tuition fees are high then why are you studying here?

Re: Student loan

I'm a student and am sorry to say that banks stopped giving student loans altogether a few years ago. Some used to give them but not any more. The Swiss system is based heavily on your parents financing your studies.

Cuz, I thought that, I can find any type of part-time job, even newspaper delivery, if I had to, but try to do this in Ticino without italian... Then you will see what I am talking about...

If I had the employment, I wouldn't need the loan.

Re: Student loan

What course are you doing?

4000 CHF/semester in a public university is a large sum even in Switzerland.

Or is it some course provided by private enterprise in collaboration with the institute?

it is the university of Lugano, I am doing master in marketing. And the university is quite new, and do not have relationships with institutions and organiazations providing funding and so on.

Yeah, I am considering this...

Hey, has it evr happened to you, that you are refused a job, cuz you are over qualified...?

I was applying for administrative assistant (just a basic job) so I can be sure that I can get it. And recieved and answer that I am too qualified, and therefore I can not get the job... What the heck?...

I guess the general worry for an employer is that someone who is over-qualified will get bored/unhappy and then possibly disruptive/unproductive.

I wouldnt expect it to be an issue for short term work, but employers will consider this for longer term positions.
