Filing US taxes before Swiss?

Hi there,

I have not filed my Swiss taxes yet since I've only been in the country for 8 mos. I never received a Steuererkarung and the guy that I consulted with told me that I should file until I get it. My guess is that I haven't made more than the limit for Swiss tax reporting so far (even though I will for the year).
For US taxes, is it possible to prepare my return using Turbotax, etc without having my Swiss return in hand? I only have the Lohnausweiss from my employer.
Also, has anybody tried TaxCut? I've heard it catches a couple of more deductions TurboTax doesn't...

Re: Filing US taxes before Swiss?

You will need to file for an extension, because you need to be pass the bona fide test resident before filing your taxes. I think you automatically get an extension to June 15, but if that doesn't cover you, you'll need to extend further. You have to be present in Switzerland 330 days out of 365 to pass. See further information here. And definitely use TurboTax.
