Remortgaging an offshore property in Switzerland

I have a house in Cape Town. Now that I work in Switzerland, I am hoping I could remortgage it here.

Does anyone know if any banks here offer such offshore mortgage products?

Hi Kiffguy I looked at this a few years ago and there was no interest. The mortgage departments seemed to only be interested in the local property market. Also you have to think about the currency risk or look for a foreign currency loan.

Hmm, that's a pity. I will give it a shot and reply here if I make any progress.

Mortgages by their very nature are national, although some Swiss banks will consider property just over the borders but that is about it. There simply would not be enough interest it this area for Swiss banks to develop expertise in the property markets of foreign countries.

You might get them interested in some kind of commercial loan or back to back financing arrangement, but there would need to be big fees in it for them to get them interested.

Might still be cheaper. You won't believe the interest rates you pay on a bond in SA.
