You sure BP can survive this? Share price does not reflect the the true feeling of the market, as BP is involved in certain practices to maintain the share price and liquidity in the market.

Telegraph today - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has expressed concerns that the massive Gulf of Mexico oil spill could lead to the "annihilation" of BP. "Whether the company can digest those expenditures, whether they will lead to the annihilation of the company or its breakup into pieces is a matter of expediency."

Haha... Ze Russians have been long after driving BP out of the TNK-BP joint venture. The Director from BP's side was made to flee Russian ans was in hiding, the last I know.

Overreaction is an inevitable part of marekt these days! In both direction there are exaggerations partly due to routine methods like Stop-loss,... that many institutions use, so suddenly all wanna sell or buy.

What does he know?
BP will survive. They should be held accountable and they're going to have to shell out tons of dough to put this right, which will be painful for BP and it's shareholders. But long after the over emotional Congressmen and women have had their five minutes in the sun, things will be arranged so that BP can afford to pay ie it will be given time to pay. Because if they were forced into going belly up because of this.....nobody's a winner....least of all the people whose financial survival depends on it ie the folks in the street whose livelihoods have been shattered. And you can then add to that misery the consequences for the thousands of BP's US employees and shareholders who would also suffer if BP collapsed.
It's in the US national interest to keep BP going so it can be (quite rightly) milked. BP knows this. The US president knows this.

The Gulf is not the North Slope, and the permanent damage is unknown but huge. And BP's liability unquantifiable.

BP may face a 7-year offshore drilling ban: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-10642556

BP has been accused of lobbying for the release of the Lockerbie bomber, and is seeking drilling rights in Libyan waters.

That said, money can be made on bad news. And BP remains a takeover target. But what do I know.

It's just unquantified, not unquantifiable. One day it will all be added up.

But subject to twenty years' or more of litigation (remember the Exxon Valdez case). And in the long run we are all dead: http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/John_Maynard_Keynes

I did a hit and run about a month ago, then decided 3 weeks ago to jump in for the ride after reading that the relief wells were proceeding nicely. The stock is up 33% or more over its low, and I believe for one that it will continue to rise to about 45-50 pts. It should settle about 10pts below its normal value. Y'all might think about going for a ride of a few more points... Be careful though!!! If anything goes wrong with the operation, it will implode like a Ping Pong ball @ 1000 meters under the sea:D

Give SwissQuote a go . . . pretty easy to open an account. That's one of the most popular in Switzerland. Alternatively your bank might have a service.

There are a few other threads on online share services if you use the search facility.

So the well is capped. And according to this the damage is less than feared:
http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/5a1970b4-9...tml?ftcamp=rss

75% of the oil spilled into the Gulf has already gone - evaporated, dispersed or eaten by microbes.
Evaporated??
