US tax 1040 form: use Brutto or Netto income?

My fellow Americans, tomorrow is the deadline for filing your 1040 tax form in case you forgot. Question: for my annual income for 2009, do I use the Brutto figure, or Netto figure (basically exclude AVV/IV/ALV etc. taxes taken by the Swiss government at source)?

Of course the Netto would be preferable as that lowers my taxable income...anyone know?
