bank letter - PIN but no Access Card yet

Hi all

Hubby had his wallet stolen about 2 weeks ago, we cancelled everything and reordered everything to. We got a letter with his pin on it today but no card, is it normal to get the pin letter before the card or should we chase it up as we are going back the uk for 2 weeks on monday.

Any info would be great

Re: bank letter

Yes it's perfectly normal for the pin to be sent separately from the card. Just imagine if the both were sent together and the card stolen in the postal system.

Pin and card always get sent separate.. usually the next day or so... but nothing is 100% sure of course..

Edit - or what Slaphead said, of course.. ;-)

PIN letter and card are usually sent seperately and usually a day or two apart - I've seen delays of up to 5 days between the two.

No offense, but is this your first credit card, anywhere?

No this isnt our first card anywhere. We know that they usually get sent seperate but back in the uk the card gets sent before the pin. we got the pin in today but haven't got the card yet. I was just wondering if it was "normal" for the pin to be sent first, before the card here.

Well given these days that you practically can't use a card at all without a pin, it makes sense for the pin to be sent first. Otherwise you have a card that you can't use.

Ya i was kinda surprised to see PIN sent before the card in switzerland... also with the ATM machines, the card comes out before the cash here, where as in india its the other way round...

i know for sure that the pin and the card are sent seperately, and usually not on the same day. your best bet would be to give the bank a call..

Before it used to be like this; you would be seriously surprised at the amount of people who grab the cash and walk away only to think 10 minutes later.......oaaaaaahhhhh i left my card behind !

Well you certainly can't use the PIN without the card, so I'd think it would be a wash either way

True, i guess for similar reason the PIN is sent before the card, May be in the excitement of getting the card, the guy/gal inserts the card into the ATM machine and suddenly realize oaaaaaahhhhh i didn't yet get my PIN !!

This is normal, in my case the PIN arrived 2 days before the card. Same thing with my wife's card.

Re: bank letter - PIN but no Access Card yet

Just an update we still have no card and we go back to scotland tommorow morning for 2 weeks, this mean we will have to go the bank to get sterling pounds, is this likely to cost us a lot of money to do or are we better getting the money from the bank and going to the travel agent to change it?
