credit card with L permit?

hello all,

I have currently a L permit, and a bank account (Credit suisse) with a Maestro card.
Do you know if CS can give me a Visa card with a L permit, or should I have a B?

thanks

Re: credit card with L permit?

I enquired regarding this at creadit suisse like one year ago and they said a straight NO. May be now they changed the rules so nothing wrong in giving them a visit...

While I can't answer this with any authority I do think you're going to have a tough time on an L permit. As the L permit is a short stay permit, holders tend to be far more of a credit risk in the eyes of the banks.

I do know for sure that while I was on an L permit I couldn't even get membership to the video rental place just up the road from me. I never bothered to apply for a credit card as it would have probably been a waste of time.

As you're EU you may have a better chance than a non EU L permit holder, but even so I wouldn't hold your breath.

Your Credit card is not really dependant on your permit but on how the bank views you as a risk and what references you can provide.

if you can document your salary to the bank, they are much more willing to extend you credit.

Re: credit card with L permit?

three years ago, my husband got a credit card with the local cantonal bank in Vaud (BCV) no problem with an L Permit. it's worth asking at your local bank directly.

assuming you are working, or studying, check to see if your company/school is affiliated with a particular bank as there may be extra privileges awarded.

Re: credit card with L permit?

We were able to get regular credit cards (Master Card and American Express) through Credit Suisse on an L permit ~9 months ago. Our bank account is also at Credit Suisse.

My husband is on a local contract though, not a limited/short term one.

Re: credit card with L permit?

Asking CS would be much more effectivethan posting on EF, but to give you a piece of advise - I applied some time ago for a cc with a B permit and got denied. I called them and they told me they give cc only after five years of having B. I was quite surprised, since I knew people around who got these without this condition. When I tod this to the customer service, they asked me about the names. This was apparently wrong tactic, so next time I called them I told them who I am, what I do and what company I work for and had no problem whatsoever.

Re: credit card with L permit?

I tried once on a B.

UBS Googled my full name, confused me with an older man in San Diego who was convicted of securities fraud about 10 years ago, called to ask if I had a connection to his (now defunct) company, and never sent the credit card. Or a denial letter.

Re: credit card with L permit?

WE had similar problem.
i'm still looking and trying to get a credit card here, but Credit Suisse and Coop (managed by Credit Suisse) denied it since I have an L permit.
I'm now wondering if we could get a credit card via Die Post.
I would change my account ina split of a second.
It is horrible to shop for things online if I keep using my cards from USA and sending money back to USA to pay it off. What a waste of money.

Any help

I'm sorry to say, but the threat of moving your account probably doesn't worry CS too much, if it did, i'm sure you would already have one of their cards by now.

You will not get a free card (Coop/Migros) with an L permit

Take a look here for prepaid cards: http://www.checkcheck.ch/Kreditkarten/Prepaid.aspx

Cornercard www.cornercard.ch have a range of prepaids.

An alternative is with the migrosbank.ch here: http://www.migrosbank.ch/de/Private/...rd/default.htm
