Which bank for UK transfers?

Hello All,

I am just in the process of a Geneva move, trying to sort out accommodation, banking, etc. I have seen the previous thread on banking and it has answered some questions but I just wondered if you guys knew what account would best suit my needs. I have just had a quick scan of a few of the sites, and I may have misinterpreted, but it looks like some charge for transferring money out.

I do not need a fancy bank, I am not bothered about it including credit cards to begin with. I want an account with easy to navigate web banking, ideally in English (it seems most have this) and one that does not charge a lot to open. I will be transferring approximately £2000 a month over to the UK, so my main consideration is an account which will not charge me a lot for making this transfer. Apologies if I have just mis-read the terms and you don’t in fact get charged. If a better offer emerges once I have spent time in Geneva then I will obviously change my account, but for now I want one that is simple, easy to open (ideally just with either passport or contract details) and that doesn’t charge much.

I know absolutely nothing about the Swiss banking system so any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Tristan

Re: Which bank for UK transfers?

They are all the same unless you're really talking big money, (think 100's of K) i would take either CS or UBS, they're all as good or as bad as one another; somebody will give you a complete horror story about their experiences, somebody else will say how fantastic they are.

If you really want to try and save a few franks, try increasing your remittances to 10k per time, this will allow you to save Chf 2.85 per transaction !

Re: Which bank for UK transfers?

Go UBS, for no other reason than the banking is free if you have more than 10K on deposit, it's 15K with CS.... or it was, other than 0.025% here there you'll need the Hubble to find any real differences

UBS e-banking is very easy and I move money around between here/France/UK and get the applicable ex' rate at the time, no other charges.
