Definitive Tax Statement - "Verrechnung Haben"

Hi All,

I've just had my final tax statement for 2005 and am pleased to say they owe me.

But I can't correctly translate "Verrechnung Haben" in context (it's a credit to me on the bill).
I have some ideas:
-A reduction because I payed my tax up front (Quellensteuer/tax at source)
-An offset for paying someone to do my tax return

Or something else?

Cheers
GBN

Re: Definitive Tax Statement - "Verrechnung Haben"

Hi GBN,
This was the only thread pointing towards "Tax Return". So I guess this might be the correct thread for my query.

I received a document titled "Lohnausweis für die Steuererklärung" for 2006 from my employer.

How is it different from the document you are refering to? I just need to know if this is the official tax returns document.

cheers!!
vishy

Vishy - the document to which you refer is a statement of earnings.
gbn - it's probably neither. They just owe you....

Hi Vishy you should have two of these documents at the top left one will say for the tax declaration and the other for your records. Well actually it will say this in a non-English language but hey you get the idea. The one stating for the tax declaration you should keep safe...

If you have not until now received any tax return documents for 2006 you are not likely to get them. You can apply at the local tax office to get them. If your salary is below 120K you should consider carefully before filling them out as you might get a shock. Only if you are able to reduce your contributions should you do this. Above 120K and you need to fill them out. For further information search the forum I have written plenty on this before...

I'd call the person listed on the statement left corner. You have to request the money back- they unfortunately dont send it free willing. Or the other option is to have this amount go towards your next year's taxes (but dont forget to declare this to your tax advisor)

Call 'em? Oh shit, I translated it as they put it into my bank account (which was on the statement).

SWMBO has earmarked it towards our summer hols... best I ensure it turns up...

Re: Definitive Tax Statement - "Verrechnung Haben"

I had my 2001 refund automatically given to me. Mind you, they are, shall we say, not exactly the most streamlined and modernised department (Zurich Cantonal Tax Department I mean).

I'm still waiting for my 2002 refund, I paid my 2003 taxes (without the credit from 2002) over a year ago and got a snotty letter them from them reminding me to pay it last week. I've seen no sign of my 2004 definitive tax statement, despite answering the rather demanding enquiries of the tax department over a year ago. 2005? Who knows what will happen with that. I mean it's only half way through 2007.

Bottom line -keep good notes because given the speed this organisation works, you may well just forget that they owe you money by the time they actually get around to thinking about paying it back!

Vishy, since your questions are unrelated to this thread, I suggest you repost them on the relevant threads that you just learned the info from. I'm sure Richard will be happy to answer your questions there.
