Postfinance E-Finance yellow digipass card reader gizmo

is it cute or what ?

if it were not yellow, i'd have the feeling i'm in a james bond / jason bourne movie everytime i use it

do other banks propose such device for online banking ?

being only a retail banking service, i can only imagine what private banks propose...

Re: Postfinance E-Finance yellow digipass card reader gizmo

Ha, me too! I was quite astonished when they sent it to me - here in Germany, they tend to rely on much more old-fashioned methods, like bits of papers with columns of TANs on them etc. Am still very taken with it, when I log into my Postfinance account I feel positively Miss Moneypenny-ish.

Re: Postfinance E-Finance yellow digipass card reader gizmo

Is there a point to this?

Yes it's yellow, that's the post's color - and yes it's a decent security feature... But I'd hardly call a simple challenge response algorithm james bond worthy...

Credit Suisse seem to be phasing out the RSA SecurID tokens and replacing them with the mobile phones.

The problem with TANs is that people are prone to sending the complete list to fraudsters. A good social engineering or "phishing" attack can achieve this.

So sorry, I'm one of the easily amused. And you, let me guess, belong to the humourless brigade...?

No no no, that's completely not the point. Humor is fine, Go ahead, enjoy the happy little yellow calculator-looking thing.. but, you do realize this is posted in the "finance, banking, taxation" board, right?? Not humor, not off topic or somewhere much more suitable.

It makes it really difficult to find the useful information that so many have contributed on this forum when you have to trudge through pointless drivel like this. It was not a question, it was not information, it wasn't even a witty commentary - it was drivel.

Is there any mobile appfrom Postfinance that could replace this ?

I don't want to carry this thing everywhere I go and I never know when I might need it.

You only need it for accessing your account online. It isn't necessary for ATM withdrawals or paying for retail purchases. Mine has never left the house.

Natwest in the UK issues one, not needed to access the account but to set up a new payee it is.

Ah, well I generally make my online purchases at home. I suppose if your lifestyle includes shopping online while out and about, you may very well need to take the gizmo along.

Re: Postfinance E-Finance yellow digipass card reader gizmo

UBS also issue a card-reader device.
Postfinance also have a neat little banking App for iOS, where you can check your balance and transfer up to 250.- per month. To perform any other e-banking services from your handset, you need the card reader.

Re: Postfinance E-Finance yellow digipass card reader gizmo

Migros issued me a thumb drive instead of a card-reading device. Must have the drive inserted into the computer you are using plus the pass code in order to use it. Kind of handy, unless you're the type that wants to shop from your mobile.

The PF app is not available in the US app store, at least. I had to change my country settings to Switzerland and create a new Apple account with a Swiss credit card.
