| | Re: Wealth Tax in Switzerland - seeking clarification, information | Quote: | | | | | Apologies for any confusion. Ronak asked a question that I thought fit better in this thread, so I merged it here even though the thread is a bit old.
In a nutshell, he is planning to marry a Swiss woman and move to CH (different thread). He plans to move some of his money from India to here and understands there may be a tax on that money. I'm pretty sure the only tax he will pay is the wealth tax. Thus the merge, as there are some helpful comments here. | | | | | Wealth tax may be payable depending on total value (if declared)

A Swiss resident in Switzerland and liable to tax is likely to be asked about the source of their increase in wealth during the year as part of the review of the tax return.
You are liable to a wealth tax on all your assets, although the percentages involved are relatively small - for example in Geneva it is about 3,000 CHF per year on a fortune of 1,000,000 CHF.

PLease let me know | | | | | The bank might ask, it depends if it's an unusual transaction on your account.
If they ask they will accept what you say, unless they have any reason to doubt you.
Depositing funds does not cause any tax liability, the liability is identical if you hold cash orbits deposited.
The Swiss tax authorities will only know what you tell them, the Swiss banks don't give info as it would be a criminal offense subject to a prison term if they even confirmed you had an account with said bank.

(It was easiest I found which supports wealth tax)
Just plug in your taxable income (*) in "Steuerbares Einkommen" you can enter 0 if you are only interested in the wealth tax.
Your worldwide (**) taxable asset in "Steuerbares Vermögen".
Two Swiss towns in "Wohnort bisher" and "Wohnort neu".
Zivilstatus "verheiratet" == married. "ledig" == single.
Hit on "Vergleichen". Total tax are the bold values in the result.
(*) To guesstimate taxable income from gross income: gross income - 12% - CHF 10000.
(**) See fatmanfilms comment above.

Hi Ronak,
Just some advice, since you are getting married:
In Switzerland, if you ever divorce, all money /fortune /houses bought after marriage are split 50%/50% between the two. Any money you had before is yours. So, if I were you, it's in your interest to declare all you have anywhere in the world, now (before marriage), as otherwise you risk your wife taking 50% of it, if things turn bad...
Tax on fortune is really, really small. Foreign properties are not taxed, but still need to be declared (for reasons I said earlier). Otherwise, why would all these millionnaires live here?

Fortunes are NEVER EVER split 50/50.
Also previous assets may or may not be split 50/50. Likewise a house bought from funds of previous assets or fortune is normally not split 50/50.
Please read the Swiss law before you say anything more. http://www.admin.ch/opc/en/classifie...ndex.html#a181
It all depends on the chosen marital property regime: Participation in Acquired Property (Default) Community of property. Separation of property.

You have to enter French or German town names. Geneva would be Geneve or Genf. Google Maps displays all town names in local language. Hint: you can write just a for à, â, ä; e for é, è, ê; o for ö; u for ü etc.

| | Re: Wealth Tax in Switzerland - seekign clarification, information | Quote: | | | | | Lets put the wealth tax in real numbers: Example Kanton Zurich: 1 million CHF in CH bank accounts
House overseas value 250k CHF
Total wealth 1.25m CHF
Tax rate applicable for 1.25m = 1.016%
Tax charged only on CH assets ie only on 1m = total wealth tax of CHF 1016.-
Same example with lower figures:
200k CHF in CH bank accounts
House overseas value 250k CHF
Total wealth 450k CHF
Tax rate applicable for 200k = 0.445%
Tax charged on CH assets = total wealth tax of CHF 89.- | | | | |
Hello All
Is the money in overseas bank taxed too ?
Like : 200k CHF in CH bank accounts
200k CHF in Overseas bank accounts
what will be tax charges and on what amount ?
