Where to buy/order baking extracts? / ZH

Hi there, anyone know of a place in ZH or online to buy baking extracts? Looking specifically for almond and coconut. Vanilla is a bit easier to find, but so far have had no luck with the others. Thanks.

Hi

Are you looking for regular almonds? They can be found in every Coop or Migros (go to the Migros at Löwenstrasse, Migros City and I am sure they will have coconut as well).

Have fun backing!

I'm actually looking for the liquid cooking extract for almond and coconut, not the nuts themselves. Sorry if I wasn't clear. But thanks anyway!

Coop sells essences. "extracts" which don't come from the substance, but are synthetic. They come from Dr Oetker in little vials which are on a card. I know they do bitter almond, rum, and a (nasty, in my opinion) butter vanilla. I've never used coconut extract before - I just use the desiccated stuff.

Any chance coconut milk or a coconut syrup would work? Something like Monin syrup (adjust liquid/sugar in recipe) - I know Jelmoli has quite a wide range of these syrups in different flavours.

You can get proper almond essence at the expat shop online:

They also do good quality vanilla essence, and lemon extract. I've not seen coconut though.

For vanilla though you can buy in the coop sachets of "bourbon vanilla" - it's a kind of sticky liquid essence - much better than the little vials anyway and gives a proper vanilla taste. They also do vanilla pods in our coop if you want the real thing.
