18-25 minutes, 180C. Shake the sieve a few times. You'll see when they're ready.

Bad phrasing on my part meant that Airfryer makes better chips with fresh potatoes than the acitfry does.

Just followed the airfryer instructions (phillips) cut, rinse, shake with a little oil then cook at 160 for 15 minutes then increase to 180 for a further 13 minutes.

I have more questions :msntongue:

What capacity/ size Airfryers have you got? The XL or the normal size?

I am guessing the normal or smaller size is adequate. How many people do you cook for using the Airfryer?

I didn't know there were different sizes but as I'm not into cannibalism I assume I got the normal size.

There's a large size too. I guess it just means you can put veg or potatoes in with chicken or fish and have a complete meal.

Have the philips XL version, there is only the two of us not so not cooked for more than two

I use the "festkochend" but then I cook them before putting them in the airfryer

Nobody has mentioned that you need to buy the variety of potatoes for frying or baking.

In German you should buy 'Mehlig kochend' potatoes, in English they are called floury or mealy.

The usual alternatives are called waxy, (in German "festkochend") and do not achieve the very soft insides,
and so they are used for potato salads.

Floury, or mealy (baking) potatoes have more starch (2022%) than waxy (boiling) potatoes (1618%).
The distinction may also arise from variation in the comparative ratio of two potato starch compounds.

Just saw this thread...

Anyone know how one can get a substitute green spoon? Someone who shall not be named (Mr. Helm) left the spoon inside the frier and we had a deformed green lump when the timer was off... :msnmad:

I've been using the precise method of guessing for a few months, but maybe I could find a spoon somewhere?

I've had mixed results with the Actifry. Usually, cooking the potatoes - even the right quality, with the right quantity of oil, after soaking and properly drying them - ends up with them kinda mushy instead of crispy.

We've achieved better results by putting them on the little metal basket half way through the timer, so that they dry a bit more. But still I am trying to achieve the promised crispness without success.

Any tips?

Can't you just use any plastic spoon? You can buy them in bulks anywhere, Mr. Helm will like that :D)

Not my tip, I don't own it :D

..but having done a run around the internetz last night to find out about the actifry/airfry, one tip I did find was to put potatoes/water in the microwave first for a quick blanch, dry, oil 'em and cover in a dusting of polenta/cornflour.

You're luck I have one from a previous actifry, pm me your address and i'll send it to you.

I found that microwaving the fries for about 4 minutes helped, may be it gets rid of some the moisture.
