Re: Squirrels

There are one or two butchers in London who sell it. It has appeared on the St John menu before.

Get a friendly Londoner to bring one over for you.

Mind you, it's purely novelty. Squirrel's alright, but nowhere near as good as most game you can find in Switzerland.

Re: Squirrels

Your first problem in Zurich will be getting the German speakers to pronounce it...

"Hello Mr. Globus Butcher, would you have any squirrel today?"

"Squwuwwill?"

"Yes, ah, no... er, yes."

How about attempting it in German though?

Grauhörnchen?

Not sure about the Swiss German.

It's a rodent, so rabbit should work just fine as a substitute!

Yeah, I've always considered them to be rodents and pests. Didn't know they were used for meat as well. My cat wouldn't even eat them, just kill them and present them.

Surely no one eats red squirrels? Or are they not considered threatened here?

Grey squirrels would be fine if they came from the countryside, it's just things like the crack-eating squrrels from Brixton* you have to watch out for. Not sure if there's an equivalent of those in Switzerland anyway.

Chickens are cute too, my girlfriend had one as a pet as a child, until the one day she came home from school and couldn't find her chicken, asked her mother if she'd seen her chicken, was told that it was in the fridge!
