Re: "Nespresso-like" capsules in Denner

We tried the Denner product as well but found out that they did not seal properly and we had coffee residue messing up the machine. Plus, the experience that the coffee sort of pee`s out and doesn`t fill the cup up like the Nespresso capsules. (Waiting forever for a piddle in the cup means ice-coffee at the rate it comes out )

I would say the Denner ones are for their price ok but if you are looking for quality and a good taste then stick with the Nespresso. We switched a while ago to a Francis-Francis machine and I must say that the Expresso it makes is way better than the Nespresso. The Retro look is just an added bonus

Re: "Nespresso-like" capsules in Denner

Migros just released Nespresso capsules this week, they are on sale now 3 francs per package, normal price 3.80. Has anyone tried these? I was going to pick some up this weekend.

I've just tried them and, to my taste, the Migros capsules produced a weak and anaemic brew, not a patch on the real things. The capsules are also made of a flimsy plastic and each capsule comes sealed in its own little plastic bag (so not more environmentally friendly than Nespresso???)

To be fair, I've only tried one sort (the espresso forte capsules) and at 3CHF a bag it's worth trying the others - but I'm not expecting any sort of a taste sensation from any of the other types.

For those who regularly travel to the UK, the proper Nespresso capsules are 3 (4.50Fr) for a pack of 10 and you can get them in Selfridges (as well as other places, but probably not many).

Whilst there they will let you try any capsule you like, as an espresso or caffe latte (which often costs 3 in a cafe!).

Re: "Nespresso-like" capsules in Denner

Nestle appears to be pursuing a pharma-type patent strategy of endless prolongation, which always breaks down at some point. I have not followed closely due to the below workarounds.

You can buy the non-Nespresso capsules in France - at Leclerc in Saint Louis for example. They are in glossy black boxes and cost about a third or so less. I have tried most of them and think the quality is slightly inferior, though they work perfectly with the machine. Take the blue 604 bus from Schifflande, its less than 15 minutes.

There is a Nespresso boutique in Mulhouse (quick train 23 minutes /2 each way with the carte reflexe 70% weekend discount). Prices there are about a third less than in CH for the exact same products. The boutique is about a 7 minute walk from the train station and has some great restuarants nearby, too (thai, lebanese, pan-asian).
