But they are obviously viewed as something of a delicacy in Switzerland!
no, not really. But the Granny Smith apples, even if sour generally and needing a hot climate really, are regarded as ideal for baking and cooking. And, as many apples, they get ripe long after having been harvested and stored. Which means that this sort is useful for cooking purposes when other sorts already are long gone.

Re: so NOT KFC....

For proper cooking you need a Bramley apple. Not a single trace of sweetness on them but they make the best pies and crumbles.

Cheers,
Nick

Re: so NOT KFC....

You may call me weird, but I liked Granny Smith decades ago when they still were sour and small, and I ate them raw. These days they are as big, sweet and mealy as Golden Atrocious and other stuff following the main stream. Fortunately, some farmers in the US Midwest still grow the kind I prefer, though.

Thx st2lemans, a groan because i said i don't like black truffle?

Sorry for having tastebuds my friend, i just don't like the stuff.

All of the sudden its fancy and expensive because " a truffle " is added to it.. bet you wouldn't know the front nor the back from a truffle when it bit you in the ass..

No worries, what he lost in male parts, he makes up in truffle..

Maybe he bought stocks in some truffle company but due the bad economy it didn't work out? not sure..

I've worked for a food company , tasted all kinds of truffle and no matter what chef prepared it, it is just not my thing, surely i can't be shot for saying i don't like truffle, nor paying a fortune for it?

I don't groan because some like green apples, some like red?

On the contrary, I LOVE truffles. Truffle risotto is a staple in our home, though I'm also quite fond of anchovies with truffles, as well as truffles with carne albese.

When my daughter went to the US a year or two ago, she made truffle risotto for my sister. I think the ingredients cost more than $100! (sister loved the risotto, but wasn't too happy with the bill )

Re: so NOT KFC....

I think you should both go to your corners with a box of red and a box of green apples ( leave the truffles for me please ) and when I count ten start throwing them ( girly underhand like ) at each other
