AKA bruschette.

We've got a friend in Calice Ligure who presses his own, and a few others who have theirs pressed, nice stuff.

Re: Tonight's dinner?

Yep, thats it. Had a snooze too. On my own down here for work and have a clear evening. Last time I cooked quail over the coals and had that, scorching hot

things just taste better cooked over wood fire: even toast. Tomorrow I will make lamb chops with rosemary from the garden

Yes, and tomorrow some of the beef filet, with a side of polenta taragna.

Tom

P.S. Left over polenta grilled with some Tallegio on top is always nice!

After eating vegan meals earlier in the week (see the Vegan thread), it's fillet steak, fries and a green salad tonight.

Re: Tonight's dinner?

Tonight I made sushi (almost gave myself a funny do with the wasabi ), followed by that unmistakable British classic, flapjack.
I think of it as some kind of fusion cuisine!!

It is amazing how just four ingredients (oats, butter, Golden Syrup, pinch of salt) can make something as delish as flapjack. So buttery, so caramelly....

If the bread is good and you rub garlic on it & subtract the prosciutto, then you've named my favorite meal! lol.

Today we had a late lunch consisting of hummus, tzatziki & tabbouleh with lebanese bread. Waiting for the key lime pie to cool..... Will eat the left overs if we are hungry either before we go out or when we come back. Tonight the museums are open from 8pm-3am. Probably going to starting with the Evita museum.

Re: Tonight's dinner?

Thinly sliced very rare beef filet, grilled over a charcoal fire, served with home made flour tortillas, guacamole, tomatoes, grilled vegetables, chopped chiles, grated cheddar, rocket and iceberg, washed down with wine.

Re: Tonight's dinner?

I know it's a brunch/breakfast dish but I will be making a 'version' of Eggs Benedict tonight!

I say a 'version' becuase I don't have muffins, but will be using toasted brioche. With ham and bacon and a home made hollandaise...

yum yum yum

Re: Tonight's dinner?

Fish (Goldbrasse) baked in the oven, Kohlrabi saute'ed in olive oil, and fennel-potato soup. Dessert is pear and apple slices baked with a bit of raw sugar and creme fraiche (country-style recipe found in a library book).

Re: Tonight's dinner?

Having read Federica's review of their lunch at the Greek place yesterday, I ended up making Tiropita (feta cheese pies) for starters last night. They came out brilliant! Will definitely do them again.

3. Sambal (chili paste)prawns with chopped onions, leeks and beans
4. Boiled eggs
5. Sliced Cucumbers

Re: Tonight's dinner?

Last night was minestrone w/ tripe, but my wife went shopping in Italy, and picked up 1/2 an octopus (the 1/2 was still 800g!), 700g of sardines, and a few kg of mussels. Cooked the octopus last night and pressed it.

So, tonight is steamed mussels, octopus carpaccio, and grilled sardines (currently salted to firm the flesh).

(and grilled chicken for my daughter who doesn't like fish)

Tom
