Re: Valentine's Day meal - ideas of what to cook?

Valentine's Day is the anniversary of my arrival in Switzerland so I did a basic "Swiss" meal of raclette with bacon.

I'm not so keen on the usual sides that m-i-l serves when we've been over to hers though so went a bit more exotic, using saffron infused cheese, spicy curry powder to sprinkle and pineapple chunks. Hubby was quite pleased.

Dessert was Emmental meringues, sliced fresh strawberries and rum flavored whipped cream with a bit of bitter chocolate shaved over the top.

:

ok raclette sounds a little heavy for a Valentines meal but that's my opinion... if you and your hubby enjoyed it thats all that matters.

Re: Valentine's Day meal - ideas of what to cook?

I got huge surprise with a phenominal meal.

Starter was a nice piece of salmon some some sort of yellow sauce with saffron.

Second was a gorgeous thick cut of beef tenderloin (no clue where in CH it was found) smothered in a cherry sauce which had some hints of brandy or sherry or something. Scalloped potatoes on the side

Dessert can only be described as the most fragile browie ever made filled with molten chocolate.

I obviously have no clue what these dishes are really called, but it was quite possibly the most amazing thing I ever ate. Way out of my cullinary league.

Back to my budget of meals under 6.20- today. Sigh.

That was it. Wow, I'm so uncultured. Definitely got spoiled rotten! I guess I need to be especially good now too.

On sunday, I had mcdonalds for lunch/breakfast and a bag of popcorn for dinner

I agree but the only shared meal we had yesterday was lunch (before he went to work), so that wasn't so bad.

The dessert was had after he came home from work and it was nice and light for post 11pm indulgence.
