Hi all,
I am looking to by beef fat to cook with (roast potatoes, etc) and was hoping someone might know where I can get some, preferably in the Basel area, but willing to travel if need be!
I did try the specialty butcher just off Marktplatz in Basel, thinking that he'd be a dead cert, but he thought this was a very odd request and knew of nowhere to get any, except "possibly in Germany somewhere".
Soooo - if anyone happens to have any ideas, I would be very grateful!

PS. I am specifically after beef fat, not pork or goose fat.

You will have to render it down yourself, but you should be able to get beef fat, as a lump, cut off a carcass at any butcher. It is known as "dripping" in the Queen's English and I have never seen it anywhere.
As you mention, duck fat and goose fat can be easily found in France.

No problem, I get mine from the butchers, I get suet to boot as well.
