Intolerance causes uncomfortable symptoms
Allergies can be fatal ...
With your symptoms , you would be intolerant. But have you actually had that medically diagnosed?
Well, Hedgehog, maybe I am intolerant. I have not been medically diagnosed. Whetever .. I do not like the symptoms that I suffer from and therefore do my best to avoid MSG.

My point is you don't actually know it is MSG, do you? So you lambast an ingredient that has been used in food for centuries
I'm allergic ( properly, mind) to penicillin ( and to most of the airbourne suff in CH, it seeems) - but I don't think for a minute it should be banned or erased from planet earth. I just have to make sure I avoid it ...
Food allergies exist, they cause the suffers real problems. But discussions of such issues should really be based on facts not myths

Well, actually I do. Fact. And, as stated, I do my best to avoid it.
So, in order to avoid airborne stuff in CH do you wear a face mask at all times??!!
Can one of the resident Americans please explain to me (a European) what MSG is and why I should be obsessed with it ?
I`m not american, but we have Aromat in South Africa too .... and it`s real full name is Monosodiumglutomate .... a very intense salt used as a flavour enhancer.
If you see folk with swolen ankles and feet and puffy skin its a sure bet they consume a lot of it, on most of their food ... fried eggs, vegetables, meats....
Some folk finally become allergic to it. Which means the immune system is overloaded with this chemicalised salt.
Most pre-packaged foods contain it. It cuts down the amount of "real" food, by intensifying the flavour, so you consume a waste byproduct called Whey which is a noxious byproduct of cheese manufacturing that sort-of resembles a cross between snot and puke and is not allowed to be put down normal drainage systems.
Actually, I believe that the Swiss drink called Rivella is made from the Whey?
Similar to disposing of warfare chemicals in Chemo Therapy ..... put it into humans and they recycle it freely!

Thank you so much! At last someone who has recognised the symptoms that I suffer from. That said, knowing that ingesting MSG can have this effect on me, I do my best to avoid it.
It is easier said than done though, given that it is often added to a myriad of foodstuff under the guise of flavourings, or such like.
I don't know where this story came from but MSG is only one of the ingredients in Aromat. But the rest of the post is pretty accurate.
Yes, but it is the second ingredient listed and, by law, ingredients are listed according to their percentage usage. Note too, that there are three more E numbers listed in the ingredients...
Sorry to be a downer on Aromat lovers but I think should know what you are eating here
I've no doubt that some people are sensitive to it but for the bit I put on me eggs I'm not too worried. It's amazing there are any slim-legged Swiss left!

Do you get them after cleaning your teeth as well?
Go and have a look at the ingredinets list of toothpaste. It's full of artificial sweetener ...
As this quote is regarding my statement of headaches after having MSG and "fake" sugars too frequently, I feel it is imperative to point out that the instructions on (most) toothpaste (that I've ever used) specify NOT ingesting it.
So, to answer your question, no, I don't get headaches from toothpaste after brushing my teeth as I don't swallow, I spit.
Too much MSG - headache. Too much "nutrasweet" (aspartame) or some other artificial sweeteners, headache. And, by headache I do mean "comes this close to qualifying as a migraine" type headache.

Yes, I had forgotten about the horrors associated with the likes of aspartame ... another additive that I am allergic to/intolerant of (need to be unspecific here, according to Hedgehog ...)
Well, actually I do. Fact. And, as stated, I do my best to avoid it.

No, I went to a Dr, then a specialist had it diagnosed and take huge quantities of Symbicourt. And as my mother died of respiratory failure it's a concerns. But thanks for your suggestion
TBH I don't care whether it is an allergy or intolerance, but having spent several nghts with someone close to me on an IV at the local hospital because a waiter couldn't be arsed to ask in the kitchen whether they use that sh*t or not, I just think that it is not necessary. I have eaten excellent food that doesn't contain it...so why us it?

I am sorry to hear about your mother and am glad that you are taking measures to protect your own health.
Just out of interest, the medication that you take contains two active ingredients, budesonide and formoterol fumarate. Budesonide is a type of medicine known as a corticosteroid, which is a hormone that is produced naturally by the adrenal glands, which are part of the endocrine system.
My point here is, (as referred to earlier in this thread), that MSG, as well as other additives, can have a detrimental effect on the endocrine system, and thus the adrenals. Your medication replicates a hormone that is produced naturally by the adrenal glands, which may indicate that their efficiency has been compromised.
Therefore, I think it may be beneficial for you to avoid any substance that may adversely effect the balance of the endocrine (adrenal) system.

Reason: and
And while delicious, the fact that all Swiss roast meat seasoning tastes exactly like Streu mi is why every roast chicken (or pre-seasoned uncooked meat) in this country tastes the same. The Swiss have never known the luscious touch of a lemon pepper or herb-roasted chicken!
Edit: P.S. Best roast chicken I ever made was a "chile verde"-spiced one. Pureed green chiles, cumin, lots of garlic, lime juice, S&P, all rubbed up under and all over the skin. Produces a yummy, but green, chicken.

I have seen this video about MSG and it made me refrain from using it.

Wow. Some of you people are just awesome.
Venting about swiss food in generael is easy. But can you proof that you are better. Just telling that swiss food without Armoat doesn't taste and on the opposite adding Aromat destroys the taste of food is not enough. Proof it!!!
I'm waiting for inivitations from the "Experts" of taste from this forum. Let others decide.
On the other side the most popular event on the forum: KFC!?!
My conclusion: Most of you people are maybe not smart enough to find the real good spots to have a proper meal be it swiss or anything else.
