| | Why can't I find a Cox's apple?
For the last few months I have been searching for a cox to sink my teeth into, but alas my search has failed so far.
Why is it, that the fruit'n'veg section contains all other varieties of apple, yet the fantastic tasting cox has disappeared.
Yours confused ... AND concerned.

Cox's apples are a traditional English variety, the cultivation of which is best suited to English climatic conditions and soil types. I don't think they would grow here very well, and conversely there are Swiss varieties that are better suited to conditions here.
As, implied above, they are a late variety, and are normally available late autumn/early winter - a Christmas apple. After which time, they are not normally found, as they don't keep well, and should be eaten fresh, in season - the limited availability (seasonally and geographically) is what makes them special.

As the others have already explained, at this time of year they are not usually available. However, come autumn they are even in our little local shop... Mmmm

They are lovely. Just tried them out for the first time this week. Yummie! Got mine in Migros, however, but please don't hold that against me. |

I was totally thinking of recommending the jazz thing too! It has changed my apple experience - in that I am now eating one or more every day! I guess I am becoming more and more Swiss! So sweet and crisp and tart! I buy them in Migro and Coop - I only wish I could find them bio! Are they new? I haven't seen them before but that doesn't mean much!

Braeburns are on the wane, but were lovely a month ago.
