Tandoor Oven

Hi, I'm looking to get a tandoor oven, have found one here http://thetandoorclayoven.co.uk/OurProductSS1.aspx

but just concerned about being stung for extra pennies at customs, does anyone know of any shop or website in Switzerland that would sell something similar.

This is a gift for hubbys' birthday so looking to get within the next couple of weeks if possible.

Cheers for any help

He is a lucky man! Never seen one in Switzerland. Cannot find one using Google in "Switzerland", "Schweiz", "Suisse".

Make sure the oven is shipped without any UK VAT, saving about 20% tax. You would have to pay the Swiss sales tax of 7%

Re: Tandoor Oven

Thanks for that I didn't think about the tax, so would be best just to order direct from that site. Yeah he is lucky , no doubt I'll end up cooking the tikka though!

P.S. Did you get my wee message re the next buffet night?

Re: Tandoor Oven

Thank you Glenda. Yes I saw your wee message that you are at school tonight. It isn't a buffet in Berne, it's a normal la Carte restaurant, but supposed to be authentic, - without the diarrhea, (from the Greek διάρροια meaning "flowing through", also spelled diarrhoea).

I have ordered a bit of stuff out of the UK lately, not every company will do the paperwork so you don't have to pay VAT, it pays to check first. While your talking to them ask them who (which company) is handling the freight and customs clearance, the charges at the Swiss end vary a lot depending on the company, so I always ring the company here to get an idea. I had the choice of 2 companies last time there was a CHF200 difference in price for their "handling fee". You will pay 8%Mwst and a per kilo rate (about 1chuff per kilo for electrical items)for importation. I would love to have one and they do package deals but my b---s would go in my industial strenth blender if I buy any more cooking toys!!

Re: Tandoor Oven

That is correct RTN, I had forgotten about the weight. You are charged for the weight inclusive the complete packaging (But not for the Pallet)

"Packed in a wooden carton (Approx. 55Kgs)"

So it would be 7% MWSt., plus about CHF 55 duty, plus handling charges!

Maybe it could wait for Santa Claus to bring it?

Yep this starting to sound too expensive to deliver here. We have a friend in Germany who comes to Switzerland every other week for business, he always drives over, if we delivered to his address would we cut out all these charges or at least some of them?

Re: Tandoor Oven

Well, they're quoting "insured and delivered" to Switzerland for 92 over the UK cost, and in 5 or 6 working days, which doesn't seem unreasonable to me, given the size, weight and nature of the goods

...and that includes a 24-hour period after delivery to fire it up and report any problems back to them.

Last edited by weejeem; 08.03.2011 at 15:20. Reason: "24-period"? What in heaven's name is a "24-period"? Begone, Jack Bauer!!!

Or this company just across the border from Basel is your friend. You can have it delivered to them.

Edit: They charge Euro 15 for taking delivery of a pallette

i am with Weejam on this, that is not a bad rate and then if you have any problems, they are their problems. Have a look at the link you posted, find someone here and do a bulk order, rather than trying to save a few quid on postage.
