I remember reading (or hearing) that during WWII (and before), whale meat was very heavily consumed in UK, due to price and limited availability of other meats.
In fact it become so much the staple protein of the working classes, that they ended up actually becoming so fed up of it, in the end, that it inspired
Dame Vera Lynn to record her classic wartime hit:
(Ah no) "Whale Meat Again??!!"

| Most of the meat eaten in Switzerland was Swiss: 80 per cent in total. Nearly all of the veal (98.4 per cent) and pork (94.5 per cent) was produced in Switzerland. | |

Whenever possible, I will always endeavour to buy home (Swiss) produced meat and poultry, and pay a premium as I think the animal husbandry it considerably better than of some of the alternative sources of origin.
[It really gets my back up when some meat has travelled half way round, when we should be supporting the local farming economy - exception being lamb from the antipodean colonies, as I grew up with that]
We don't eat meat every day, so I prefer to go for (perceived) quality over quantity.
