And tbh ive never met even a german who would care what the beer came in..
Either you
- haven't met any, even the lowest educated construction worker will insist on a bottle.
- actually met Swiss. No idea why they have so many cans here, probably just another case of "lack of class".
- met students at the end of the month where bottles weren't in the budget anymore.

And it has nothing to do with age, even at 14 did I buy bottles and not cans... the only acceptable occasion for cans are rock festivals.

(Why am I trying to explain this to an Australian?)

Sorry to sidetrack the thread but.....
RE Australians: Because we drink to be social and not to be pretentious?

RE Germans I know: All University educated (not that it matters anyway), and most of my work are german

A party is a party mate. If I was invited and got served cans at a party, I wouldn't be so picky

I have honestly never thought that drinking beer out of a bottle is "pretentious". What are people who drink a draft then? arrogant?

Party, Treverus we're talking about a party. I never said drinking out of a bottle was pretentious

Yes I was talking about cans. Who the crap would care what it comes in at a party? Sure I like my good beers as much as the next guy, but for a party where a guy is asking to save money, frugalness is paramount.

When you drink it out of a skull-funnel the "bottle vs. can" debate becomes less relevant.

...anyway, the party won't start rockin until the beer-droid shows up...

This guy is the classy version, but maybe he has some cheap-a$$ M-Budget cousin or something that will fit your budget...

Re: Cheap alcohol for party

Edinburgh is quite posh don't you know . Try the blind taste test with French people & I am sure you will get the same result. People will judge on what they think they are drinking & not what they actually are. I have seen it happen on several occasions while working behind a bar when I know that people are drinking something different than what they ordered but still think it is the one they wanted and making comments as if they had the correct drink in their glass.

Yeah that place is great. Might get a keg off them if I have a party soon. The Pilsner was bloody awesome

The pretentiousness bit is not drinking only bottled beers, but looking down on drinking canned beers. hth.

Though your comment "only the homeless and Americans" did make me smile. Btw - the English drink from cans as well, and it's fairly obvious that at least some Germans must drink from cans, otherwise you wouldn't be able to buy crates of canned beer in Germany, would you?

The customs allowance for cider and perry (if it's that sort of party!) is 3 litres - it seems they count as fruit juice rather than alcohol.

Re: Cheap alcohol for party

Back on topic. The OP made a flurry of posts on Tuesday to get his post count up to 10 so he could advertise his apartment, so it seems his question is pretty hypothetical.

At the end of the day, if you find yourself in the Euro zone, can be bothered to reclaim the VAT and declare at Swiss customs, it seems it can be, just, worthwhile.

But if you want cheap beer for a party, head to Denner, or better still, Landi and get some (German made) cans of Farmer beer for 55 raps a can. If you want to serve beer at a posh party, buy from the Rappi Bierfactory.

Turbinenbrau also sells cold large draft setups - and will rent you the glasses for free.

Useful for parties - so I've been told

Ya know what else comes good with the 3lbox?
If you put it in the club-soda despenser and carbonate the stuff, then it drinks like good Aldi bubbly.

(kitchen secrets of Slammer the chef)
Ew - sounds gross!

Landi also sells kegs. Don't know what the beer is like, though. My boyfriend tells me that their "farmer beer" (the one in bottles - just to reignite the bickering) is nice.

Re: Cheap alcohol for party

Finkbrau is on offer in Lidl until Saturday , only 29 rappen for a half litre can . Not a great beer, but if you want a load for a party on the cheap it should do the job.
