| | Buying Cheap Fruit & Veg in or around Basel?
Does anyone know of any cheap fruit/veg markets in or around Basel?
I'm wanting to buy mass fruit and veg once a week if I can find a good market or something similar. |

can definitely second the lörrach tip - it's really very cheap and particularly nice in the summer during the berry season!

Hi we like to go to Aldi in Germany there are 2 close to the border in Weil - they have great quality fruit and veges at amazing prices! Not too sure how much you need to buy... but maybe its worthwhile having a look?

Many fruits and vegetables that Aldi and Lidl sell are of inferior quality, they look good but taste like cardboard (Monsanto monsters, I assume.) There are exceptions, though, but you need to shop around.
Regarding St. Louis, I really loved what the market had to offer last year, so it's great to know that they've restarted. Does anybody know if the market is on every Saturday? If not, do they have a calendar somewhere in the internet, for example?

| | | | | I think that you have to accept that some people really don't care what they taste like - as long as they look nice.

Also on all Tuesdays and Thursdays at Croisée des Lys, but I haven't visited this one myself.

Many Turkish and Indian stores have good prices, and some even open on Sunday. There's a good one in front of the Bläsi public library.

You should also try ALIMA in KleinBasel on Breisacherstrasse and Blasiring . We buy ours there and they are great. It is a Turkish Market with also excellent meats, seafood, and food preparation ingredients.

There is another Alima on the street behind SBB (the side where MediaMarkt is). The one in KBasel is a bit betetr but its the same shop so can also get good deals there.

(It's apparently a different market than the one I visited last summer - the latter was all over Av. du Général de Gaulle.) | Quote: | | | | | I think that you have to accept that some people really don't care what they taste like - as long as they look nice. | | | | | Touché...well, for those people Aldi veggies are unbeatable owing to their rock-bottom price.

I've only been to Lörrach once before and don't really know my way round yet.

Just be aware of the limits on what you can import without paying duty. http://www.ezv.admin.ch/zollinfo_pri...x.html?lang=en |

I checked out St Louis yesterday and liked it. The prices range from about 50% to 100% of the prices in a typical migros and the quality looked decent.
Next week I'll have a look at Lörrach
